What did you do TO / WITH / FOR your bike today!

Almost wasn't any longer, if it wasn't for Aliexpress I would have had to change the cranks as well.
I banished the square taper BB and cranks from my '96 Giant to the junk corner and put on an external BB.

Still running the questionable v-brakes though 🫣

But TBF, you probably need the disc brakes with the speed at which you ride.

Found myself a little involved in bike advocacy these days, after they used my hit and run as an example for an article in the local murdoch rag. We had another one today pushing back on another anti bike lane councilor...

Finally put all those brief writing skills towards something actually useful :)

Are you riding all the way from your place into town?
I have for many years. But only one day per week. Depending on route its 30-35km each way.

Presently I am riding from Parramatta wharf to CBD, along the Parramatta river cycleway. Its Glorious on a nice day. The river, homes, parks along this route are awesome. And reasonably flat until you get to Gladesville, as its following the river. I park the car near Parramatta and ride from there.

I love it!

was wondering if it was the Ridge. We should go for a cruise again some day - I think we actually live relatively close to each other, right? (BR is my local).
I’ll be keen for a ride but will need some time to get basic fitness back first! If can you remember how slow I used to be - well I long for that level of fitness right now!

I’ve moved from the area but not that far away really.

Welcome back and congrats on #4.

A solo bike ride a day definitely puts a bloke in a better place.
Welcome back mate.

Hoping to have mine finished this weekend and am definitely looking forward to that zen 'going for a spin' feel after some challenging recent weeks at work.
#4?! that sounds like a lot of (wonderful, but) hard work!
Thanks guys
A ride-a-day won't be a thing at all, but hoping I can maybe get out for at least a ride every couple of weeks, which is more than I've managed in a while.

4 kids is hard work, not gonna lie. Love them all but holy shit can it be frustrating not knowing which one to deal with first 😄

Well done sir. I did love my city commute era. You route sounds bit more pleasant but I gather you are heading along Victoria Road to the CBD?

My eyes! It's square taper!

Now, now @Oddjob Don't be like that........... :D

Those Shimano square taper BBs never die. Once you have one then you have them for life. They live past several tried and failed 'standards'.
I'd be inclined to take square taper with some uber pr0n cranks over a potentially creaky pressfit BB.

Finished off a full freshen up of my old Mongoose hardtail.

New 10s chain and cluster. New tripple rings up front

Conversion to front and rear discs using rear adapter, re-built rear wheel onto a disc hub. Changed fork.

Looks rad, mate!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the rear disc brake adaptor after you've ridden with it. I'm going to put one on the youngest kiddo's bike when he's big enough for a 24" wheel bike as the frame I've got waiting for him is vbrake specific.

That's a good chunk more kilometres than I am interested in pedalling, but i have rolled around a lot of the harbour. It offers some spectacular moments. I havent been past the fish markets for ages, it must nearly be finished?

Im extra partial to a ride over the bridge.

This needs a double thumbs up. That cycleway is so awesome.

Such cycleways are excellent government spending.

Good to see you back on the bike @Rorschach you may not make it to the forest as much as you deserve, perhaps you can squeeze in a more regular night time or early morning rip around the block?

The fish markets are now basically finished. But I have no idea when they open afresh.
Legal issues, allocations of sites and sizes etc added HUGELY to the cost and delayed it.

My engineering firm did a major amount of hydraulic and fire design and certifications for it. The delays and cost increases were not our doing!!🤣

Not Victoria Rd really. The Parramatta River cycleway goes from Parramatta Park all the way to Gladesville basically, and ends with Morrison Bay Park. Then I wiggle a few streets, through Gladesville Hospital, across Gladesville Bridge, then through Drummoyne back streets and a bit of Victoria Rd to Anzac Bridge.

I'm truly refreshed when I get to work! (my legs tell a different story though).

We'll see. At least one kid is up before 6 and it's normally after 8 before the last one is down for the evening, so 9 before I sit down for the evening - at which point I just want to go to bed!

You can do it! Or you know...you can not. As long as you are getting what you need to keep going. There's a lot of juggling with a family that I have no understanding of.
