What did you do TO / WITH / FOR your bike today!

Just threw some coins down the rabbit hole...new forks, new wheel, new shiny bits...im pretty confident I'll be a better rider as a result.

Well well well...that's pretty fast. Purchased some things on Tuesday night and they arrived today. The excitement of being able to set these items up on the bike for the long weekend was very high! Swing past post office...that box looks a bit smaller than I expected...a key part is coming separately. After the long weekend.

Still pretty excited with the new stuff and how quickly most of it arrived. Items swiftly despacted from MTBdirect and Cyclinic.

Upn a closer review it appears this small box (about 2 shoe boxes in size) apparently contains a wheel...I feel this is going to be a little bit of a saga. Email sent.

Dug out an old Minion SS to put on the rear. Got quite a work out trying to get that bastard to seat. Even with the Airshot at 160 psi it took a number of goes. I shall be very annoyed if it deflates and unseats tonight.

Lap with a mate yesterday who is still recovering from a minor fall that did some carnage to his elbow, with a 5cm diameter gash that they couldnt stitch, glue or staple, so was pretty cruisey

Then yesterday and today a lot of swearing and cursing while I paint a frame, still ongoing now with time to do the decals, its probably going to be pretty average but its for commuting and maybe some bike packing, we'll see how the health goes there first.

Once assembled I will do a PYR for it but its a mutt of a build.

Decals went on okay and same with the clear coat, not as thick as I wanted but it’s not 2K so I can’t expect too much.
Did some assembly last night as I’m impatient and then broke a rivnut, luckily it was top one on the seat tube so easy access but more pissed I will have to touch up the paint already.
Hopefully it will be rideable by the weekend.

Replaced the bearings and freehub body in a pair of Hope Pro 2 EVO hubs - without a trip to the fuckwits thread. Win!!
The Amazon/AliX bearing press tool worked well on the front hub, and I probably could have used it on the rear as well.
It does help if you orient the Hope free hub press tool the correct way, strangely enough. 🤪

A little bit more work on the new build, it’s rolling now but the newish chain I had in the drawer turned out to be a little bit shorter than I thought, so new chain ordered plus some cable and hydraulic line cutters. Then it’s bleed the front brake, cut the rear to length and bleed it, fit chain, fit gear cable and sealant in the tyres, then it’s ready to roll, I think, here’s a sneak peek of what I’ve been working on.

Rode a Hardtail for the first time in ages a week or so ago - repurposed one of the kids bikes (little bugger has outgrown it) what a shame it happens to fit me. A sneaky n+1 scenario that totally wasn't planned by me, anyway I enjoyed it so much but had to tweak it, so ordered and fitted a XT 11 speed shifter (justification was the SLX shifter was bar mounted and in the wrong spot so I needed an iSpec shifter), chucked on some bars with a little more rise and less sweep and now keen to give it another run.

Mild FW moment as I knew the shifting was a little stiff but figured the new cable in the XT's would be fine, but nope it needs a new outer. No doubt I'll do that at the same time I service the front Shimano hubs as they are a little crunchy, however given my hate of servicing cup and cone hubs who knows when that'll be and I'll just whinge about it for a bit instead.
