My first bike was a gt avalanche, in the first week the front wheel fell off and I went out and bought an apollo gauntlet. this bike was much better and I still have it today, although I snapped the hanger and can't find one anywhere in Australia.
My current bike is a 2008 norco atomik.

It's not vintage, but what they hey!
I started with a 2007 Giant Talon - a birthday present from my good woman.
It lasted me through to 2010 and went through a few upgrades until I finally got fed up with the chips & scratches on the paint and ported all the bits onto a new frame. The old frame eventually went to the scrap metal bin at work.

Trek 3900, little xc bike that lasted about 2 years before it got stolen,
My MTB history:
1. Repco K2 from circa 1992. Purple, rigid forks, LX gruppo.
2. Marin Eldridge Grade circa 1995. That was a beautiful bike. Titanium coloured steel frame, red anodized components. Ahhhh.
3. Avanti Competitor frame with Aggressor kit circa 2001. Nice bike.
4. 2007 Specialized Stumpjumper comp. A bit too freeridey and slow for me. Sold on this forum.
5. 2009 Giant Anthem X0, bought on this forum. Absolutely fantastic bike.

1995 GT Outpost. 4130 Frame with some rubbish ridged steel fork, acrea x drive train, weinmann rims and plastic toe clips. It had a 1 inch steer tube and threaded headset.
This bike was a dream bight powder coat yellow with blue grips, seat, stickers and most importantly tires! For a while I was the envy of the school. I had to save for over a year and cash in my birthday and xmas presents all at once but it was worth it.
I still have the frame but during the life of the bike I folded a rim, bent the handlebars, cracked the driveside crank right off, bent two sets of forks and finally the downtube cracked at the headset. Poor bike. It served me well. I mastered every jump at the Goulburn BMX track, jumped small children and shopping trollies, bunny hopped everything in site, wheelied and also commuted to school, my dads workshop and various girls places all on an 18 inch frame with a 130mm stem when I should have been riding a 16in with a 100mm stem, but back in the day long stems were the go. It was my first real taste of freedom as a 12 year old.
God every part on that bike would be considered rubbish these days.
I recently bought a Charge Duster, as many know a steel framed bike. It feels good to relive my youth but with a bike that doesn't fall apart every time I ride it.
My first full suspension bike was a Giant ATX970 circa 1997. 6061 Alloy frame with STX RC and alivio parts, Rock Shox Indy XC (2.5 whooping inches of travel), RST coil shock (3 inches of travel) with alex XC rims, cantilever brakes and not much else going for it.
I also still have this frame. As a 16in bike it was perfect for the BMX track sessions and the limited DH we had in town. This bike had two folded rims, broken cranks, cracked forks, split elastomers, a leaking shock and not least two snaps of the rear sub frame during its life. The rear end was flexy as fudge, but we didn't know any different.
I still loved this bike it was the first taste of what money could buy in way of a performance MTB in the mid 1990's. Again 2 years of saving and sweeping out dads work shop and working weekends with him, again worth it.
Cheaper full sus bikes have really come a long way.

1989 Shogun Trail Breaker
I had it for 15 years, riden only extremely rarely in the last 7 years of its life and eventually went in the bin after the frame rusted out - probably something to do with leaving out side, uncovered for 10 years.
Competed for the first time on that bike, up graded the cranks to Shimano "Bio Pace"

Giant Rincon. Lasted 6 years of fairly consistent riding, until I got into downhill, then it mysteriously lasted only a few months before the head tube decided to seperate from the rest of the frame whilst riding down mt dandenong.... dunno why.
