Whats the best beer you've had & why?

Anyone tried tap king yet?
thiught about laying down the cash for one, I like novelty things.. But seem to get some less then average reviews!

having bought a mini keg before, id say stay well clear. Consider the volume of the mini-keg and consider that its pressurized. You lose quite A LOT of your beer to 'ice cream beers'. Ive also found the flavour wasnt quite there and the carbonation levels drop quite rapidly.

Buy the real deal . :)

My favourite shelf beer :

sleeping giant IPA. Made in WA, and not exxy to buy (~50$ a slab).

Nothing beats my father in laws home brew :)

This thread can now be put to bed. you will never find a beer cooler than this:

The beer itself is a lovely nutty drop. At 4.7% it as a bit of a lighter punch compared to all the 6-7%abv IPAs that seem to be Bier Du Jour these days but who cares. Bruce Dickinson himself had a hand in developing it so that's another addition to his ridiculously huge list of talents!

drink too many and you will wake up with a head like nikko's

I bought one. Filled it with Boags Premium. Was ok. Only the first glass came out all foamy. After that it poured pretty well and the beer stayed fizzy 24hrs later. Economically its a bit of a joke. Even at the discounted price of 40 bucks for 2 x 3.2l bottles, it still works out more expensive than buying a carton (although better value than 2 six packs) and you're limited to Lion Nathan's stock which is pretty much Boags, Squire and XXXX. There's also the 30 bucks for the unit itself.

That said, for ease of use and the fact that it may help combat the problem of my recycling bin sounding like a punch-on between half a dozen drunk medieval knights in a hall of mirrors whenever I wheel it out, it's not too bad an investment.

This is the only problem I have with beer. When I own my own house im thinking bottle feature wall. It may be a bit wonky but it'll be fun to put up

I home brew with a friend just as a hobby and as a poor excuse to try different beers.

A few nights back I had, for the first time, some Matso's Mango Beer. Didn't know if I would like it as I am not a mango person but I really enjoyed it. As a result we put down our own batch of mango beer. Just waiting for it to ferment and we will see how it goes. Hopefully it will turn out OK, just have to wait and see.

I also like it, far far more then Matsos chilli beer. That was one hell of a punch. I could only drink half, doesn't happen often with a beer lets put it that way.

Don't know if its been mentioned yet but for me I cant go past Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. A real standout when it comes to the flavour with a massive hit of hops. I'd almost consider this a benchmark when it comes to pale ales. As for dark beers its Coopers best extra stout for the win.

Been traveling a bit recently, been good to try a few new things.

Some things I haven't been brave enough to touch however,

10.1%....fcuk yeah!!!!!!

I've got a mate who makes 7-8% beer and it knocks you off your feet after a few. Imagine what 10.1% would be like.

Ok, I'm just recording some notes here, cause I was at the bottlo today and had forgotten which beers I'd really enjoyed and which were a bit off.

Not too bad, hoppy, malty, but overly bittered I feel.

Really unusual grassiness to the hops. Not a huge fan. But I'll drink the bastard anyway, cause I'm all about commitment (the girly may disagree).

thanks to Fatman for introducing me to a bunch of fruity things.

cracked one of these open last night.

If you like that whole Belgian thing.

Bacon flavoured beer.

That's really all you need to know but for those of you who want to know more, it's actually rather lovely. The smoked malts and bacon flavouring give it a lovely little salty edge that complements the sweetness of the subtle maple syrup flavour. I've had two of these bad boys since first discovering them and I think they're slightly habit-forming.

There is also a chocolate peanut butter + banana beer from the same line. It's alright but not as good as the bacon. At $19 a bottle they're pretty pricey (although the bottles are big) and I reckon you could achieve a similar taste for less $$$ by just mixing a bottle of Wells Banana Bread beer with a Young's double chocolate stout.

And where does one go to sample one of these intriguing brews?

Rogue has got to be one of the worst brews i ever had. Was the first refreshing beverage i ever poured down a drain. :tsk:
Great names for everything, but tastes like soot and poo. Used to be rather local for me.

Beer should taste like beer.

I had the misfortune to try liquid bacon at the pub in the hunter and it provided absolute proof that you cannot combine two awesome things to make one thing of mega awesomeness. If one were able to achieve this it may put the very fabric of existence at risk.

Nuh uh.

If we're to be living in cities on the moon then we need exactly the kind of dynamic thinking that brings us such bold ideas!
