Isnt CRC 5.56 same type of lube as WD40? Ive got some in the shed....wouldnt let it anywhere near my bikes, or rubber seals for that matter....or disc brakes......
This is a piece of very good advice!

WD40, or something that even resembles that stuff, should be banned:mad:
The crap can even attack electronic components, now how's that for a lubricant?

Magura :)

Haven’t used lube/oil on my chain in over 12 years. Paraffin wax (candle wax) in my friend. Melt it on the stove with my chain in with it, swish it around a bit and hang it up to dry. Lasts a full days ride on the XC bike. Then juts clean it well in fuel and detergent and into the wax it goes again. It doesn’t attract dirt what so ever and stays super smooth! Chain and cassette last for ages! And best of all only cost about $0.80 a year! BARGIN! :D Not for everyone though as it’s a little more time consuming, but you can kiss good bye to a black oily drive train! Also not that effective in really wet/muddy weather...

This is why they invented wax based dry lubes. Micro wax particles suspended in solvent, squirt on, it penetrates, solvent evaporates and your left with wax in your chain. Its called convenience.

Chain-L for me

I use Chain-L no 5
I get at least 3 rides out of an application.
When I can "hear" the chain its time to reapply, but I like to do it more often.
Chain doesnt seem to get rusty in the rain.

Yeah I used to use a wax lube years ago (Ice wax I think), worked pretty well, but it was still never completely dry so a little dust/dirt stuck to the chain and made it gritty/mucky. I’ve never used any of the latest wax lubes though, they may be the ducks nuts...

Thanks for the response guys.
From what I can gather I think the Rock & Roll lubes are ahead on the poll not necassarily because they are the best but because they are available almost everywhere. I haven't heard too many people rave on about them. Since starting this thread I've tried:
R & R Gold
R & R Extreme
Juice Ceramic
Squirt
I'm currently using Squirt & I must say I find it to be the best so far. I like the slightly thicker consistancy (helps avoid wastage & indicates a higher volume of active ingredients) & it keeps the drivetrain quiet & relatively clean for ride after ride.
Everyone's going to have their own opinion of course, so I'm still welcome to ongoing feedback.

Tri-Flow is my pick.

My chains seem to last longer and run quieter; although it requires more cleaning than dry lube. On the container it states that it contains carcinogens, so it pays to avoid getting it on your skin and wash up well afterwards.

.. a few that I havent seen on here include my frav. Prolink Gold.

I've also used Boeshield T9 for a while, but personally prefer Prolink. These are both fairly wet lubes, but I like it like that. My drive train usually gets a good rinse after every ride anyhow.

just heard on the grape vine that there is a local company testing a telfon or wax based dry lube especially for Australian conditions & will be releasing it later this year.

edit: Just found this... podium lube
very interesting.

Well hello.
The chinese whispers are partly correct. We are testing & formulating a range of lubricants which will be 100% Australian made for OUR exacting conditions. Waxed based lubes are good but from our testing we have established that a far superior PTFE (Teflon) lubricant can be formulated for use in Australia & we are currently working with specialist chemists to come up with this & bring it to you, this Spring! We've been researching & testing already for 6 months to date & we will continue refining for another 6 months to make sure it is the best possible lube it can be.
Initially our range will start with 4 products & grow from there.

Any questions feel free to email us at: mail@podiumlube.com
Happy trails.

bit of a dig, but saves creating a new post
I can't imagine much has changed in 3~ years, but will ask anyway.

I current use the weldtite dry wax lube (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/au/en/weldtite-dry-wax-with-krytox/rp-prod5962)

But want to something else, as I find it gets noisy pretty quickly. I have never used any other lube in the 3~ years of starting riding, so have absolutely no experience! (even with the common rocknroll/white lightening/finish line etc)

99% of my riding is in the dry, sometimes dusty.
I like the dry touch of wax lubes (ie no greasy hands)
Ideally, I'm after something thats dry to the touch, stays silent/quiet, and doesn't attract dust.
I clean my bike after every ride... so the maintenance/attention side of things isnt that much of an issue.

I was gonna try out Chain-L.... but was told to look at Morgan Blue extra dry... anyone has experience with that?

Alternatively, what do you guys recommend personally and why?

Rock n roll gold.
Go rock n roll gold chops, you'll never look back. Pushys generally have it at a good price:

thanks guys,
Gold seems to be the 'All Purpose' lube, have you guys tried the thinner red Absolute Dry?

I dont mind shorter application intervals... nor do I care about biodegradable/eco-friendly, tree hugging, chemcial free lubs.... just want something that ticks the boxes.

Keep the suggestion coming boys!

I see the red as more of a road lube. Having said that, I've never actually tried it but want to try it out on the roadie.

I find in the dry conditions here rock n roll gold gets noisy quite quickly eg. 40km. I continue to use it though as everyone tells me how good it is. Would love something that could keep things quiet for a longer ride though.

Ride Mechanics "Bike Milk" is my choice.
Runs very clean. Wax based. Cleans as well. Made in Australia. The guy behind it sponsors a lot of Aussie riders and puts funds back into the trails.
Win, Win, Win.
