When did this thread turn into a scooter discussion?

Scotty T wow i just bought a used 2015 Avanti Torrent frame in good cond and built it up w Pikes, Deemax wheels , 150mm both ends, cannot really fault it dropper post and a long seat slid forward the geo is still good.
So $500 sounds cheap not sure that its a beginners bike ?
$500 is pretty cheap, he's a good mate, would try for a bit more in the marketplace. The 2015 is a different beast, beefed up more and 27.5 from memory?

This has basic fork and shock, low end build on the rest, and my mate has ridden lots, incl off road basic stuff so it's pretty suitable for him and I'm not gonna make a grown ass 41 year old "earn his stripes" on a hardtail.

Not all yeti riders are dentists! You anti-dentite fascists are everywhere! Some yeti riders are accountants, doctors, and lawyers...shit I've even seen a chiropractor on one! Oh Waits they're a doctor these days aren't they?
Not all yeti riders are dentists, but all dentists ride yetis.

So today's though on this subject. At what price point does a bike improve your riding speed, quality and comfort?

Does a carbon frame increase your performance by 25%?

Does a $6k bike improve your enjoyment by 50% over a $3k bike

Does a $12k bike make you twice as fast as a $6k bike.

What justification do people have for dropping more than say $4k on a MTB?
In 15 years, I've founded after $6K, the increased returns heavily decrease. After $8K it's all wank factor.
