Whisky!

Sitting here tonight trying to see what I like better, Ardbeg 10 or Port Charlotte 10. Might need a few nights to decide as I'm really stumped.

Unearthed these in the move into my new house, and cracked over the last couple of nights. I must have bought them 15 years ago, before the Americans ruined the whiskey market.

Very good but not mind blowing. But check out the price of the one in the middle. Definitely better whiskeys out there for that coin.

Ha! I have enjoyed a few different versions of those 3. Definitely all victims of excess demand pricing, even in japan.

The Laphroaig 10 is at Dan Murphys this week for $89 down from $129.

Make sure you don't get the laphroaig oak select - finally opened one that I was given some time ago. The bottle states "Our most laid back expression" Yeah you don't say. If you open a Laphroaig, you kind of expect a bloody Laphroaig not this watered down 'version' of it. I'll have to have another taste after I let the trauma fade to actually determine if it's any good or not (I'm still angry and it was a week ago).

I was recently invited to taste a few of the Archie Rose whisky offerings. These were noteworthy:
Rye

Single cask, single malt

Heritage red gum

The red gum was particularly interesting. The rye is quite approachable and flavoursome. While each are worth a drink and enjoyable, at the various price points I think there is probably more flavoursome alternatives. But this is my standard position on most Australian whisky.

I agree. The only exception is Morris, which is bloody good by any measure.

Indeed. Morris deliver consistently good whisky...and fortified. I dont know if there is a connection, but bar Morris in the Morris hotel on Pitt st (sydney) had a nice range of Morris whisky last time I was there.

What has happened in this world, Lagavulin 16 is $276 at Dan Murphys now, even at $200 on special I guess I won't be having this anymore. Sad times

A couple of things...

Excise here

Greed

Global demand is a long way ahead of supply.
