Whisky!

How much did you spend?
The first rule of fight club is...

Spent about half as much as in Australia, assuming you could even get it. The Taiwan alcohol market makes Australian duty free look like even more of a joke.

I am always surprised people fall for duty free in Australia.

The new year's system outag distracted me from sharing a few things from here in japan...

This was nice, typical speyside goodness. But I wished I had picked something peated.

Speaking of, I came across this in a convenience store for about $10. Ive got a couple of whisky drinkers arriving in a few days, so ill know what it is like then.

There was also nikka frontiers which i saw last season but didn't try. It was smooth easy drinking with a hint of smoke.

Lastly if you havent seen these high ball cans, they are mighty good. The yamazaki was all of $9...imagine what it would cost at home!

Theu are some pretty decanters @beeb
The matching glasses were hard to come by. Awkward as anything to drink out of due to the ripply edges. You'd be unlikely to get really drunk from them though as you'd end up spilling most of your drink by the time you were half-cut.

Nanny Still designed some nice glassware though, consider me a fan.

Alright.... another Tasmanian port cask finished delivered. It's good but I want something different.

I don't know much.... what is a reasonably priced peated whisky I can try?

Bleh!

Lagavulin is the OG. Highland Park is a more approachable but excellent dram.

Callington Mill Enigma is a good Australian peated.

Sizeable price difference from ardbeg to lagavulin.

Highland Park make some tasty stuff but it is rather light on the smoke.

Ardbeg is good, but for a novice to peaty goodness it can be a bit of a punch in the face at first. Talisker (my go-to), "La Frog", Lagavulin and Bunnahabhain are all really good. The standard red-label Bunnahabhain is flicking amazing, it's rich & fruity, like a smoked Christmas pudding in a bottle. The blue-label (I can't recall its Gaelic title, but it translates to "The Helmsman", so as a yachtie it appealed to me by name) is rougher & saltier, moreso than Talisker; It's good, but I wouldn't call that one REALLY good.
