Whole-Bike Services Recommendations (Sydney)

Evening all,

Looking to get a complete overhaul performed on my bike; front and rear suspension serviced, brakes bled, pivots and linkages cleaned and lubed, drivetrain tune, wheels trued etc. Can anyone recommend a place in Sydney that will undertake all of this in one hit, or am I better off sourcing different shops for different aspects of the overhaul?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes
Vanilla cycles, Marickville
Cycleworld, Concord
Play Bikes, Cremorne
Wheel in Workshop, Brookvale
Cycle Max, Crows Nest
Bikebug, North Sydney

Most of them will probably send suspension to Mtb suspension centre.

I haven't used https://www.bikesnshocks.com/contact but they sound interesting and do suspension as well as servicing.

Summit Cycles, although as @Oddjob mentioned above depending what needs done to the bouncy parts that component may be outsourced.

The Duckmeister

Has a juicy midrange
In-house suspension service will depend on both the brand of bouncy bits, and the individual shop. Most forks can be done by any moderately skilled mechanic, but a lot of rear shocks need specialist stuff, so are generally outsourced. Rock Shox are the only rears I'll do more than an air can service on.

I'm not in Sydney though, so can't offer any specific recommendations for where to go.

I used Francisco from Bikesnshocks last week for a full bike/full suspension service. Took 2 days. The only thing he can’t do in the van is the Nitrogen for the rear shock, he has that at home as can’t keep it in the van. Whole suspension setup is like butter now and feels even better than when i first got the bike.

Tune Cycles. They'll come to you, have a relationship with Mountain Bike Suspension centre and are good mechanics. Their prices were good and I was super happy with the result.

just me i think, but i would avoid summit cycles. Got quoted for a hanger (say $50 i can't remember exactly how much), but charged more when i came in to pick it up ($10 more). Was pissed off but i needed the hanger and just paid the damn thing while telling them "actually u charge me $10 more" and got the response like eh that's the price.

I'll never ever go back to them ever again.

BS16 in Collaroy is honestly way, way above any bike shop service. The pricing does, however, reflect this. But honestly -Aaron is amazing.

Cannonshockworks also on the beaches for suspension.

Chainreaction.
Frasers.
That’s all I got.
I've bought 1 bike from each of those places, the only reason I went back to the later was I had to warranty a cracked frame (Fisher Pro Caliber) and haven't stepped foot in the former (575).

There's a few notable mentions in the city as well.

Bike N Shocks ... Cisco and Vanessa are good people. Mobile mechanic ... but unsure how far past the bridge he goes ... Lane Cove based from memory.
The Tune guys seem pretty wired as well ... more smart people.

Same here, I went I there one day to get a shock fixed, stood at the counter in front of two of them whilst they carried out a conversation for 10 minutes before I finally had to "rudely" interrupt them. Got some stink eye like I was a piece of shit for it.

I also have a mate that had them put a new set of forks on his bike. When he got it back he wasn't happy with the handling, something felt off. He went back several times and they kept saying nothing was wrong. He then took it to Mitch at Cyclery Studio (Who I really rate, he and Brad in my opinion are some of the best bike mechanics I've met) who took about 5 seconds to notice that they'd put the wrong offset forks on.

Chainreaction.
I second this too. After being abused by the owner for wanting to return a set of shoes a few years back I'll never set foot in there again. The dude is a cock and I'm certainly not Robinson Crusoe here.

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.

Yeah the cyclery are a good mob. Some serious bike porn on the floor, good lord it’s dangerous going there.

Have a heard a lot of good feedback re Cyclery Studio and geographically they're probably the most accessible of the places mentioned. As for the not so positive feedback, pretty much reflects what I've heard about the referred to places....

Thanks all, much appreciated.

I had a fork serviced by Mitch. it was a very quick turnaround time and no hassle. Highly recommend him.

I forgot to mention, when I called summit for the hanger, the very first question they asked me was “did u buy the bike from us?”. I was like “no..why?”. The guy replied “oh ok. I’ll check the price for u”. It felt really strange being asked that question...like why does it matter?

There can actually be some good reasons for asking this - if you bought from them they may have a loyalty program that sees you get cheaper prices (official program or not) - also a lot of the public (yes yes I’m in sales and we call you the public like we are some kind Elite special forces unit) are dumb and have no idea what they actually want or need - if you bought from me I check your receipt to verify what you actually want or have :) - and sometimes we are just dicks and want you to feel bad for not buying from us then coming to us :)
