Why I don't ride road anymore

You didn't have a bell! How was I supposed to know you were there?
The one thing I always have is a very bright flashing rear tail light so it can be seen in bright day light. I have mine on always, in fact I was the first to do it, and now everyone has copied me 🤣

I believe the flashing wakes up/alerts drivers, both on a conscious and sunconscious level. I've been on the road long enough to have friends killed and I've even been hit by a driver dozing off at around 100km/h - I guess you can call me lucky. It was after a cluster of incidents like that in my 40s that I started using a tail light at all times. I think it helps, and now everyone I know does it, and some even using a flasher on the front too. I tend to do that early, on the suburban streets, until I get to the highway.

Call me crazy (Fargo style) but I also reckon staring straight at motorists, in the eye, alerts them at some primeval subconscious level too, as a threat perception is triggered. You know back when we were cavemen anything staring at us was likely to be a predator.

This any time I can, especially if they have fucked up, but always at any intersection it does make a difference, the only thing it doesn’t do is make a chunt change their mind, if they are going to cut you off, they will.

I always make sure I ride too slowly to be cut off, yes the point is to make them see you, what they do after that hopefully is done quickly enough with proper judgement so that a collision is avoided.

Second ride after the ankle injury, a car pulls out in front of me from a T intersection while I'm cruising down a hill.

Luckily, the driver's window was wound down, and I could see him only check in the opposite direction before he pulled out, which gave me ample time to slow down and go around him.

Trust no one on the road, I tell yas.

Fuck riding on the road. I hate to give chunt drivers the satisfaction of thinking they've won the 'war against drivers' but I prefer winning the 'live another day' contest.
I think this was an honest mistake; the guy did say "sorry" when he finally spotted me. I only need to do a couple of kms on the road before I get to fully separated bike paths, thankfully.

Going to the trails is a 3 hr event for me, for like 40 minutes of riding, the traffic and trying to park when you get there is just a joke.

The politcs with the only legal trail network closet to me, really pisses me off so I try to avoid it these days because of the people there, even though I'm one of the original people that started the place.

Sounds like a nightmare!
