Why so few new bikes with Shimano drivetrain?

Probably sram lowballing the crap out of the oem market.

What they lose out on oem, they make bac by geoblocking.
And they make it back quickly with those bulky low hanging derailleurs, cassettes made of cheese and weaksauce chains.

Anyone else here notice the price hike in Shimano parts ? I've been buying Xt 11-36 cassettes for years at around $50 but all seem to be around $90~100 mark now. I ended up buying a sunrace one instead.

Word on another forum is they might start geoblocking. Zaf is going to have to school us on gearboxes and we might have to listen!

I actually heard that too but not sure how true it is.

"Zaf is going to have to school us on gearboxes and we might have to listen!"

Only if they can find a way to stop belts breaking :)

This belt has done 15,000km. It's an awesome travel blog on Facebook

They put ‘cheap’ NX and GX on...then get you when you have to replace bits at a ridiculous price and not available through the online dealers.
Can buy a full shimmy groupo online for the price of an XD cassette locally.

I think most people just suck it up. All us guys whinge about the Geoblock, SRAM $ for replacement, but don't see it elsewhere. Maybe the members on here are the only ones who ride enough to actually warrant replacing stuff :)

So I'm still going through the 'what bike should I get' stage. At least now I'm confident that a short travel 29er suits my local trails and riding tastes. Test rode a few FS bikes that had SRAM drivetrains and don't like the upshift lever ergonomics. I really prefer the Shimano 'trigger' set up and using my trigger finger to shift rather than the SRAM where it feels really awkward reaching forward with my thumb to find the lever. Looking around at 2018 model bikes and Shimano drivetrains aren't popular at all (Trek Fuel, Specialised Stumpy ST, Trance 29er) What's so good about SRAM GX Eagle that it's so dominant these days ?
I've been out of the market for a long time hence I dunno why it is so..
just piss them off
buy a zerode! then spec it how you want!
since your in WA ( i hope in perth not down south ) come test ride mine
then no busted derailuers or hangers, and never needing to index your gears EVER AGAIN!
gearbox for the win!

Ain’t that the truth.

Had a Monza/SRAM rep in last week spinning his shit about how awesome NX is, banging on about how it's like SLX but better and cheaper. I nodded politely while silently telling the guy to get his hand off it....

Was a fairly big factor in choosing my 2015 Trek which was one of the few bikes around with full XT. I've gone and bought a second hand bike with full XT except cranks/ring, like the OP I was completely put off a bunch of current bikes which had SRAM.

Now of course I want to try a gearbox! Who has one in Canberry?
