Christian Sullivan and 5h1f7y are purposing this:

A purpose built mountainbike park including the following:

* At least three DH runs
* Slopestyle/Freeride course
* BMX /Dirt Jump course
* Cross Country course
* At least one cable cam set up,crane setup,dolly's, POV camera's,hired filmer's/photographer's as well as 5h1f7y and myself who have great passion for all film production.

Onsite accommodation,for single’s,group’s,family’s.
Onsite bistro
Onsite bike shop
Onsite coaching from the country’s best DH /freeride
Pro’s.
Onsite bar?
Onsite camping

The goal would to make this one of the best MTB park’s in the world if not the best. The reason being this park would be open friday to monday all year round and all the runs /feature’s would be permanent and alway’s improving.

To make this happen we would need a great deal of like mined people and great sponsorship.

We may already have a location for this kind of park but we are open to idea’s/suggestion’s

Other future feature’s would be a air bag set up,night riding in summer,skate park,HD filming and editing onsite and art wall’s.Bike rental’s is another option aswell for people new to the sport or people wanting to try downhilling of freeriding.

This park would be fully insured,legal and on site medict’s .

There would be a cost to ride the park daily or a package deal to stay on the hill.

5h1f7y and I have had a great passion for action sport’s,filmmaking and have from a very young age and we see this as a great stepping stone for Australia .

We are not in this for a quick buck or to become the man!

We both believe Australia is way behind, other country's in the form of of purpose built MTB park's.

Please leave a comment now matter how small or any idea's,suggestion's

Thankyou,

Sullivan Films - 5h1f7y

Onsite bar?
I suggest changing the ? to an s! I love your enthusiasm guys, but realistically I think the only chance of a world class MTB park existing is if one of the ski resorts has a serious crack at it. They already have all the infrastructure, they just need to build trails and then find a way to make it profitable.

One more thing....the ONLY way anything like this will work is if this place becomes a summer destination. There needs to be a wide range of activities there for everyone. Music festivals, spas, ziplining, bungee jumping, great resataurants and bars, shopping etc...There are not enough MTB riders in Australia for the only activity to be MTB. Having things for their family and friends to do is paramount.
I think that Mt Buller is in the box seat in terms of proximity to a major population base....they just need to have some vision.

This is reminding me a lot of the "I'm going to break the longest jump record" thread.

Like has been mentioned above, a ski field is going to be the only chance of this happening in Australia. Good luck though.

+1. having something for riders families/wives/husbands/kids/non-riding friends to do is a must to get people going, particularly overnight.

I know people have mentioned about the skifields, which is a great idea, but being within 2 hours from sydney would give a greater access to a larger number of riders.

sounds like a great idea, but is it achievable?

I like the vision, it's definitely got potential. I do think you need to sit down, and refine a few things though.

* At least three DH runs
* Slopestyle/Freeride course
* BMX /Dirt Jump course
* Cross Country course
* At least one cable cam set up,crane setup,dolly's, POV camera's,hired filmer's/photographer's as well as Peter and myself who have great passion for all film production.
I like the idea of on-site filming equipment, but to quote Inception, "don't be afraid to dream a little bigger." If you're serious in this goal for "best mtb park in the world" title (which I think is unrealistic, but nevermind that), then being open year round won't be enough. You need to make sure you have more courses, and more vertical. Like has been already said, you need to be getting a ski field involved. Or maybe go buy land in NZ. They have more mountains, and their dollar is pretty weak :p

This park would be open friday to monday all year round...
Why only Friday to Monday? Admittedly most people would probably be riding on the weekends, but what about those of us who like to ride mid-week? And what about during school holidays? 7 days a week would be the way to go.

This park would be fully insured,legal and on site medict’s .
I'm not sure how much research you've done into this, but I imagine getting a fully insured bike park would be a pretty difficult task. In my experience, a lot of sports resorts require you to sign some sort of damage waiver prior to using the facilities - meaning you can't seek recourse from the resort if you are injured. I could be wrong about this though, if anyone knows better feel free to correct me.

Beyond that, I think the other suggestions already made about making it more family friendly with multiple activities is the only way you could make a venture like this profitable.

Just my 2c.

I recently had a ride at Woodhill mtb park in Auckland, New Zealand which sounds similar to this idea. This park was awesome, $7NZD for a day pass, once in you have access to 100km's of trails which are suitable for everyone from learners to hard core riders and the park caters for all disciplines of mountain biking from XC to a high flying jump park.

I know if there was a park like this around here I would be there every week. So if New Zealand with a much smaller population than Australia can sustain an awesome park such as Woodhill why can't we have something similar right here in our own backyard?

With the growing popularity of cycling and mountain biking in general it appears (correct me if I am wrong) the sport would flourish further if we had a few mountain bike parks in the country.

Do you own the land?
Do you have capital?
Do you have a business plan?
3 very important points Regan.

Also,
Who will build the trails?
Who will maintain the trails?
Will there be a skills park?
Will there be a trials area?
Is there an option for roadies to ride around somewhere?
What about hiker's?
Are you planning on lift assisted runs or shuttle busses?
Who is going to pay for the onsite medics?
What timeframes are you thinking of doing all this?
Are you planning on doing the building in stages?

Have you won powerball a few times to fund all this?

You mention you have a possible location... be interested in where that could be and most importantly who currently controls the land and what restraints there are on it.

I think at this stage there are many baby steps that need to happen before something like this could happen locally. Attitudes in the authorites to undertsand what sustainable trails mean and what the benefits could be to an area to have such a facility. Also riders need to have attitude changes that trails need to be created and that for good trails there is a cost for someone or many people to create them... they don't just appear by fairies. I think people will spend $5000 on a bike and be stingy to pay $20 to ride somewhere.

I dare say, these sort of places grow into existance upon demand... obviously there is a certain amount of "if we build it they will come", but an assessment of what is realistic to give a satisfactory return on a very large investment within a specific timeframe for people to come is imporntant to fully understand.

Having the biggest and best is what we would all like as a dream but is it realistic in Australia?

Its a MTB park?
True, but the more options there are for people, the more customers you can potentially get. Make it a bike park instead of a mountain bike park by having roadies, trials, 4x, dj, xc, dh, ds, skills and even those freaky xco people.
