I didnt see them guys, but if they did say something like that to me i would have done exactly the same as you mate.
But so far in my 5 or so yrs of racing i havent had 1 bad incident at all. Goes to show what the majority of the sport is like.
Back on topic, rego was quick, weather was great, race was fast i had a ball.:D

great race!!!

Such a perfect fire trail ha! my bike is not trashed as it has been for the last two months races/rides. In regards to someone being rude just because you are behind a train.. i think everyone has been at that point where you need to stay behind someone. In the last 2 long races that i've done we had a little group of people and just a few of us were at the front and we just talked to them and ask for help but if it did not happen i know it is for a reason so all good, at the end of the day you know that you have done your best and that should be sufficient. At a club race I had a similar incident and it was a bikeminded guy as well.. i'm afraid it may be the same offender, he does not like to be overtaken at all!

oh well.. hope those guys read this thread and feel a bit embarrased of such a childish behaviour.

cheers and well done everyone.

It was a good day

The last time I raced this was in 2001 and the track is in much better shape now but I was slower... Damn those 10 years, damn those extra kilos on the bike and body but man o man it was a great feeling racing again. I am glad to say I didn't find anyone being rude :D

A big thank you to Lynchy, you really made the last 10k FAST

1:07:11 with a stupid flat down from the helipad. Riding a fully rigid 29er and the 2 tubes I had in the camelbak were 26ers! (Ta Beth). Had me farked for a few minutes as I thought I was tripping with the lack of circumference in them.

Great day.

Apparently one guy broke a leg and one broad had shoulder/chest damage and had lots of blood seeping from a head wound.

Finshed in 59min, not bad first effort.
I didn't experience any bad manners by anyone. I got passed by a fair few trains and none of the riders were inconsiderate.
Good fun day.

Bwahhaaaa! You poor bastard, I can imagine the reaction when you realised.

I had a top day, I take the piss out of this race a fair bit but it is an awesome event, heaps of fun. Spectating on the last corner of Bennetts Ridge after your race is always good too.

The last few corners of Bennetts were the tits! Some nice drifting action and a couple of nice water bars for some air-stylee.

You too! I had a proper sized tube on my seatpost you could've used... You should've kept up with me to the helipad... ;)

Two of my other mates had flats as well... One was spewin' because he was on for a sub 50 min time too...

I was stoked with my 55.52... I haven't done the race for a few years so was pleasantly surprised with a sub hour time. Loved the Lenz 29er... Big wheels roll so effortlessly... :D

A big shout out to the volunteers and the organisers for putting on such a great event... the weather was great, the trail was great, organisation was great... :thumbs up:

What is it though with Shitty Rail always doing track work on the W2G weekend?

I've got some video of JP fixing his flat as I go past, might have to edit that bit and post it. :)

Great day, had a blast riding it with my wife, 1:46:46, bit slower than 56mins from 2 years ago, Big Dog and that porn star moustache!..classic!
I dont know if we should be casting aspersions on the bikeminded guys, i have raced and have come across plenty of rude riders, if we are going to make generalisations, i too could name a certain brand and run there product down and be unfair to the rest of there team, for i have seen it first hand the way they race, to generalise on here is a bit unfair i think, just my 2c!..I think it should be taken up with the shop itself or the organisers, not on here!

I'm not sure they did anything wrong, if you're in a group like that in a race & not working for what ever reason, be prepared to cop some flack.

it's not about the bike

Just looked at my result from last year, it's clearly not about the bike...

2010 - Yeti ARC-X (35mm rubber - tubes at 50 psi) max speed ?? km/h Time 53:24 for 20th
2011 - Ibis Mojo SL (2.5" rubber - tubeless at 30 psi) max speed 58.2 km/h Time 53:24 for 24th

I'm not 100% sure, just going off what he wrote earlier in the thread, but i dont think he was part of the group. It seems he was just riding and got in the road of the train, which is when they had a go at him. If this isnt the case i withdraw what i've said

+1. Big props to the marshals and organisers. I've got to say that the marshals and event volunteers were amongst the cheeriest I've come across, like a little bunch of cheerleaders every time you went past, even the 15mins I spent at one of the aid stations was pretty fun.

Anyone know who was taking photos in the last few K's?

It was my first time in the Careflight classic, and I really enjoyed it.

Finished in 52mins, with a max heart rate of 209BPM. My legs were toast for the last 4km. Having never done the last few km's into Eureka before, I arsed up the tight right-hander just before the grass. Didn't come off, but lost 20sec+ there.

I also put some new rubber on 3 days before. 2.2 wide rubber and man it was unsettling on the corners. I know there was grip there, but i just wasn't use to the roll of the bigger bags. More metal challenge then anything. None of that would have made much difference with my time, just confidence in attacking the tight corners. I'll be back for more next year.
