Hello endurance riders,

2012 is shaping up to be a really amazing event in Canmore, Alberta Canada on September 14 - 16, 2012 weekend. Ask anyone that has traveled to the Rocky Mountains in Canada and the town of Canmore and we are positive that the event and area will receive high marks on many fronts.

In addition to all the solo categories (Elite, Single Speed and Age Groups), new for 2012 will be the addition of two new categories vying for world titles: 1) "2-Person Open" 2) "3-Person Coed".

Already 13 countries have athletes registered.

Currently we are capping the number of total teams at 50 and the focus is on attracting teams from around the global. You might notice that teams will be accepted via a "team race resume" so competition should be amazing.

The town of Canmore (TCK), the venue of the Canmore Nordic Centre (CNCPP), the province of Alberta and the country of Canada look forward to providing you with an event experience that is certain to provide lasting memories.

Remember... "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go"

Cheers on behalf of the W24C/WSC Committee

Looks like the men's race will be quite interesting with so many names and so many riders who have never raced each other. Im interested to see how hard Corey will go off the front this time and how many other riders will go with him.

In regards to the girls, I would assume Rebecca will be back again?

promotion

Well how about some promotion for them too? All we read about is what the male field will be like.
Hi Alina, as an avid female adventure racer (Team AROC) yourself we would love to have you attend. Note that after the last worlds Katrin Van der Spiegel (2nd Elite Female) retired from 24 hour solo racing (thanks Katrin for a number of great performances over the years at WSC: 2006, 2008 and 2010), and then Jessica Douglas (World Solo Champion) retired. Rebecca Rusch (3x WSC: 2007, 2008 & 2009) last raced a 24h solo in 2009 and does not have plans to race solo.

Top ten women who are registered include: Andrea Kuster (Switzerland - 4th WSC) and Monilee Atkinson (Canada - 10th WSC).

At the risk of asking a stupid question, WTF is "2-person open" and "3-person co-ed" and what's the difference (apart from team size presumably)? Is that mixed teams? What does "open" and "co-ed" mean in this context, why the different terminology.

World 24 Hour MTB Championship teams vs. solo

Back in 2007 we tested a 3 person team category adding it to the W24C/WSC event (won by Team Kenda which had a strong Australia rider on the team). While that was a test event, we officially added two categories to the event starting in September 2012 at the request of many riders globally. We believe it fits well with our core values and history.

"2-Person Open" means any two people regardless of gender (no sub categories), while the "3-Person Co-ed" means each team must have both genders represented on the team. Example: two women and one man, or two men and one women for the co-ed teams.

These categories have been carefully selected, each providing a great challenge. Some have said that the two person might be even more difficult. Only 30 teams of two will be allowed to participate, same with the three person teams. Teams are selected globally based on a team race resume.

Jari Kirkland, former US National 24h Solo Champion and 2nd in 2009 W24C/WSC is showing interest as well.

Think you are confused! Last time I looked I had balls and certainly not called Alina! I've never done an adventure race either.

Crazy Canadian Training... Not Suggested

While Cory Wallace - Kona bikes (2nd W24C/WSC) has been working in the frozen tundra of Northern Alberta, Leighton Poidevin - Santa Cruz Bikes (8th W24C/WSC) has been working through the cold days running his stonemason business... this time of the year days are short on daylight and the boys find ways to grind some fitness through the winter.

We heard that the boys chose to ride from Canmore to Jasper in the dead of winter... like we said crazy, but inspiring.

226 days til W24C/WSC... what are you doing today?
