I have found riding my 29er that my wrist start to ach after a decent. I have only found this problem since a started riding the 29er as it never ocurred riding my trance. Has anyone got any ideas that may help to stop this aching.

I however am very normal. Trust me.
More details needed - this is the type of crap I'd ask my rehab clients.

Only one wrist?
exact location of pain?
any previous injuries? or recent injuries to other parts of your body?
difference in bars width? height? reach? grips? this bike from others
how long a descent? how rough?
seat height to bar height differences?
what sort of forks?
is the decsent after a long ride - fatigue based? does it happen if you descent at start of a ride?
When did the pain start - exactly when you swapped bikes?
Is it getting better, worse or same?
out of 10, how strong is the pain?
Have you ever whipped out some drunk break dancing in the past?

All the above are fair questions but I had a similar thing recently after changing frames. I discovered that the reach from the saddle to the bars was longer and lower than previous frame even though the geometry was quite similar. Lifted the bars relative to the saddle and shorter stem fixed it. Check the geometry between the two bikes. In my case I went from a 110mm stem to a 90mm stem and lift the stem 20mm. Now all good so it doesn't take much surprisingly.

go and get yourself a bike fit, sounds like you have too much weight over front of bike. you should be able to ride along and let your hands hover over bars without too much effort - .

What the rest have said;

Set up
Bike fit
RSI from too much good porn reaction

Perhaps not necessarily in that order.

Not much more to be said, get a bike fit.

I'd lean towards the change in arm/wrist position as your body position is changing during decent. When you set the bike up make sure you set your bars and levers up in riding position.

I had similiar issues. I have pins in one elbow and also in same wrist. Moved to a RAgley Carnegie with 25 degree back sweep and what a difference. Added Ergon grips which helped stop palm numbness. This is the easiest fix. The Carnegie looks weird but I cant ride normal bars now. I ride solo 6 to 24 hr races and the position is way more comfortable.

Also had a 3D Retul bike fit which helped a little, but it was more leg and hip angles, the upper body was in the right positon.

I had the same with the wrists a while back and it ended up my seat was too high. Dropped it and made sure it was the same on all bikes, pain was gone next ride.

Thread dig.

Been back from Tassie 8 weeks now and I still have wrist problems.

We rode 25 days out of the 28 and I initially thought I'm getting a bit older and the 4 weeks of descending basically every day has taken it toll on my old body.

My wrists have exactly the same degree of pain in the joints on both sides, where I find it painful to lift and twist with my hands up, elbows down. There is no pain when lifting something with my arms by my side, eg lunges holding dumbbells (Kettlebells would also be ok Hambo)

I crawled about below my trailer yesterday and humped 80-100kg axles around underneath it and today I could hardly lift my plate and cup of tea up.

My Deviate is as smooth as a babies bum and my position on that bike feels great but I can only think it has to do with cockpit setup with the riser bars and my new found like of rolling my bars a bit further forward.

Note: The rolling of the bars forward came from my issue with the last bike, too much weight over the rear and not balanced in the attack stance. Its only a little bit, nothing drastic. Basically to give me a better feel when standing in the attack stance... but may be the reason for this wrist pain.

I run the OneUp 35mm riser bars on my Deviate and the regular OneUp 20mm ride on my Spur, my other bikes which are seldom ridden have similar 20mm rise Renthals and the likes.

Grips are slightly different from my usual Ergon GE1's, I went with the GD1's on my Deviate.

Everything else is the same including 780mm bar width across all my bikes.

Any ideas, this is the first time in 15yrs of serious MTBing that I have ever had wrist pain.
