[X post with dirt jumping] Gungahlin Dirt Jumps Canberra ACT

After 5 years of lobbying, today the an area was fenced off near the skate park as the construction site for the new Gungahlin dirt jumps at Yerrabi Ponds.

Tree protection works have been done, as have sediment control works and hopefully in about a week trucks will begin depositing 1200 cubic metres of soil on the site.

Once the dirt is in, work can commence on turning the dirt heaps into usable dirt jumps and a pump track.

Dirt Art is scheduled to commence works on site on June 27 to craft the advanced sets.

Thanks and shout outs need to go to a host of folks for helping us get here, these are in no particular order and include but are not limited to:

It has been a long road, but the hope is that success here will pave the way for more legal DJ's throughout Canberra.

We'll be needing help with the build phase. Working bees are due to start on the 2nd of July.

Don't hesitate to get in touch

Yeah like Canberra doesn't have enough bicycle facilities already! Well done on getting it this far, hope they're sweet! </jealous>

So far about 400 cubic metres of lovely deep rust red clay have arrived on site. Another 800 or so to go.

Our first working bee will be on Saturday the 2nd of July. I expect we'll be running them every weekend for the next couple of months.

Would be really nice if folks who intend coming can RSVP before the day. Lions and Rotary will be feeding the troops with sausage sandwiches and they'd kind of like to know how many bodies will be on deck.

We'll be signing PC&L volunteer register sheets. If you're under 18, having your parent show up at the start would also be useful. There's a gungahlin dirt jump group on facebook if you'd rather do it there than here.

Cheers

Drew
