My attempt at horsepiddle humour 20+ years back went a little better. In the prep room immediately before going into theatre to have raggy bits cut out of a knee, I noticed that the clock on the wall wasn't working. I asked if that was so the patients didn't know how long we'd been knocked out for.
 
When I think about that skit these days I feel bad. In my work I've had to confront the rape of women in conflict zones and the abuse of underprivileged women by men in power. I never thought about it when I used to TripleM back in the day (I was 16, so don't feel too guilty...). But now when I hear it, I feel cold thinking of those women I saw after they'd been raped by soldiers or by the son of the local police chief, etc.
I didn't actually think about it either (also around 16), to be honest your comment has made me stop and think. You are right though.
