Post Online Stores List and Info

    Hey guys,

July 1st is creeping up and from then on, we will be charged GST on overseas purchases under $1000.
I haven't read into this very thoroughly so I don't know how it'll exactly work and who will have to do what.
One interesting point is that this is only applicable to overseas sellers who have more than $75k worth of sales to Australia.

First of all, I'd like to say I'm all for supporting Aussie business's but when it comes to certain parts (*cough* SRAM), the price difference of LBS vs OS is just too much.

Here's a list of all the OS online stores I have found some good deals on in the past:

NOT Geoblocked - Change your location to UK - Find your item - Add to wishlist - Change your location to Australia - Go to wishlist - Find your item - Add to cart - Checkout (Make sure you add this item last to your cart if you have anything else you wish to buy as adding an item will bump your Geoblocked item out)

i wouldnt hold your breath on the GST thing lasting through the budget, especially with the other flack they are taking and eBay saying they would geoblock aussies. people will just move to smaller stores that dont met the (iirc) ~$65k threshold.

will see what its like after the first week of may

Here's hoping, but the government has already taken the popularity hit for this stupid policy so I am not so confident they are going to have an outbreak of reason.

The proposed changes ( gst on low value goods) have not been passed by Parliament yet, though the ATO's website reads as it's law and will start on July 1 2017

    The bill before parliament.

As for SRAM geoblocking, here's hoping Amazon's arrival changes things.

A spot check showed Amazon, with shipping from the USA for a XX1 derailleur was cheaper then bike24.

I'll add a few of my faves:

    - cycling deal
    - bike bug
    - merlin cycles
    - onone/planetX
    - bikeman

Also I wouldn't call jensonusa 'good' price on shipping. But hey thanks for putting it together, appreciated!

The more I read about this proposed change, the dumber it sounds. They are literally relying on foreign companies to enforce Australian tax laws, and that there is no clear means to enforce the rules if they choose to break or ignore them. It even applies to resellers and middlemen of all sorts (eBay and freight forwarders) despite the fact they are only handle a fraction of the costs of the goods. Gods, is there anything this government can't screw up?

It seems the liberals are not so free-markety after all.

Hey, taxation is not at all incompatible with the free market (even libertarians believe you need a government paid for by taxes, if only to enforce property laws). But this is just a confusing mess, and there doesn't even appear to be any modelling of the extra tax revenue they expect to extract. They're just going to piss off a bunch of people to no clear purpose.

    Thanks! Added.
Yeah you're right ... Jenson shipping is relative to the item whereas most of the German ones are a flat fee of 25 euro regardless the size of the component. Different rules for complete bikes

Ah gotcha, I was only testing SRAM. I can break down each site to what's GeoBlocked if anyone has a list of commonly GeoBlocked items
