Default Why am I having trouble getting tubeless valve to seal?

As it says I keep finding Stans and any tubeless valve difficult to seal against the rim without glue .
Is it that it not tight enough ? Should I screw it down hard.
The tape and hole for it are OK.

Make ure when you picture the tape you make a hole smaller than the valve so it has to press into it with a tiger seal.

Usually I'll press down on the rubber stopper side of the valve slightly when tightening the lock ring on it, but should just be ringer tight to be airtight though.

Otherwise a small rubber o-ring on the tape side can help.

Cut a tiny little X in the tape and push the valve through it.

I'm also an X man. I occasionally resort to the o-ring on some valves too. Do them up fugging tight. And carry a set of minuscule pliers in your pack to undo if needed on the trail. Bunnings have some nice little multi-tools smaller than your pinky.

The rim face the rubber ring is sealing to, is it deeply curved to the point the rubber is not compressed at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions?

I seal valve in with silastic first. that's an area of wheel that stans don't seal too well.

I heat a small screwdriver and melt through the tape. Makes a nice seal with the valve.

That said, one set of rims just would not seal with stans valves. Swapped to Joes and sealed fine.
Think some valve/rim combos just don't work together

Hmm. 7 sets of stans...ztr, ex and mk3, never had an issue with any of them. It's been DT and Sunn that have leaked there for me. Pass on using silastic though
