Default clip-in AM shoes with grippy rubber soles. What's worth buying?

Looking for some clip-in shoes that have a good pedalling platform but some grippy rubber on the sole so I don't go skating over rocks when walking, like with my XC shoes

Shimano SH-ME7 MTB Shoes ($180-$215) and Spesh 2FO ClipLite Lace($160) look alright. I would prefer a shoe with a ratchet buckle if possible.

What shoes like this do you guys ride and rate?

Shimano am9. The old ones not the new ones that look like Marty McFly's. Swapped laces for Lock Laces.

5ten kestrel lace. Pretty good, I rate mine. Narrow fit though, which suits me.

Got the ME7's. Love the fit, the ratchet/speed lace combo is ace. The sole has heaps of grip and cleat can be push quite a way towards the rear of shoe.

The wrap tongue hurt like hell against my ankle bone for the first few rides. Also, the lace cover can put pressure on the speed lace toggle which also hurts.. Maybe I'm just soft...

I have a pair of Giro Terraduro's from an Ebay bargain. Most comfortable MTB shoes I've worn. I grab them first lately.

The sole is good for a wet long crossing too.

Watch this, I purchased Kestrel in my usual 5.10 sizing for Impact and Freerider and they're much too narrow to the point I can't wear them and went back to SIDI for stiff platform duties... Ultra Lord don't suppose that I could interest you in a pair of slightly used UK10 Kestrel with boa?

    Ditto,
the sole and last of the specialized shoes are the same size as their normal shoes, but because they are a much bulkier shoe I think you need to go up a size.

+1 for AM9s (blue/black ones, not latest incarnation), most comfortable and functional MTB shoe I've ever owned. Great on DH, enduro and trail bikes.
