Visited Hannibal today.

First time in over 30 years, ish.

The red chevron is above a D11R dozer, the one that drags the power cable around. Hannibal is a Bucyrus Erie BE1370W dragline. I think it is the smallest they made.
Love machines, probably live in the wrong place to see things like that.

Took mine out for a run before the next few days/week of rain. Feeling the exertion now on the nightshift.

Fuck yesterday. Hosted the wedding from hell. Complex intrafamily tensions, verbal barney, mother of bride and a few others storming out, lost keys, heavy rain, disorganised on their end (always happens when they opt for the "we will arrange that" and of course never do), mc didn't want to mc, last minute call up for celebrant, second mc gave up, hostile speeches, third mc steered the course, no interest sitting for meal service (could have saved a lot of $$$$ and just done canapes), nobody wanting to leave, nobody arranging taxis til close, did I mention rain? Then I got stuck sitting in the venue for 2 hours waiting for the rain to ease while these schmucks were all outside waiting for their taxis...I looked like a proper cunt as i sat down having dinner at midnight blastong some poodlerock (90s metal). Oh wait...I am.

Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes

You forgot to add the likely divorce in 5 years after 2 kids.

East Kowen - how are the trails out there these days? No one seemed to ride them last few times I did that circuit, all overgrown and sketchy. Which is a shame, they’re still good. They managed to resurrect most of Beer Garden which was nice.

Runs awesome, they recently cleaned it up a few months ago with a decent whipper snip.
Now its part of the 'main' loop/extra 9kms if you want to do the 'Big Loop (18kms)' as they are logging everything in front at the moment, apparently including Billy Cart which I didn't think they would bother with due to the terrain/rockiness.
I'd say its picked up recently after covid + more people at HQ Joc / Bungendore and there's a pretty dedicated trail crew out there every Tuesday at the moment.
(Its the only one I can get to without a car so cant compare to any other Canberra trail upkeep at the moment)

I ride the far eastern loop and the hill with romper stomper etc pretty often as it’s also my only track within reasonable pedalling distance of home (very reasonable in my case). Tracks are best they’ve been in a while, which ain’t saying much.
@dancaseyimages are you working at HQJoc? Perhaps we could have a social ride in Kowen some time as most of mine there are solo atm.

Nice. Intend to be up there next spring or summer with a car and one of the mountain bikes, look forward to seeing it in proper use :) And to get all sad and sentimental about the latest round of classic Kowen trails lost

Well I can't tell if this is the end or midway of all this rainy arsed shit weather...today is nothing raining and fucking windy.

On the plus side, most of this rain cycle I've been rostered on at work, so I am not exactly missing out on trail time. This all combines to be a clear sign I should spend some money on bike parts.

Rain… I remember rain. I think…

Went out to the old house at Nadda in the mallee, I lived here for a couple years in the 70s.
It's amazing what happens in 45 years, it's gone to rack and ruin. The right part of it used to be a shop in the 60s

Second photo is an old shed that I used to hide in to shoot my brother with a slug gun, it was in real good nick at the time, again the years have gotten to it.

Third photo is the road out of "town" where I used to go out on a 125 Suzy with a 30-06 carbine to shoot roos, think I was around 11 at the time. They were a total pest to the farmers so don't cry too much for them.

If the house was in livable condition I would live there again in a shot, my partner said good luck and wished me well

Huh, @Plankosaurus is starting to look like a nice bro...

But really, that's a nice little house there. Shame it has been abandoned.

I wouldn't have liked to be my brother either but I was the youngest so had to be assertive.
It is a shame these old buildings are slowly falling apart, they are actually history of whole regions
Could you buy it/fix it? I thought lots of people were moving to remote places as we can work from home/remote work now?

I think this is too far gone, big open cracks in the walls. Termite eaten wood everywhere.
It looks ok in the photo but in real life it's a total wreck.
The person who bought it off my parents was a prepper, remember the 70s when nuclear war was still thought about seriously.
He concreted the cellar under the shop section and that's the only part that is in good condition.
The elements have been pretty harsh on deserted buildings. I'll post a photo of the town hall shortly, it was used to store grain because it was watertight, just look at it now
