Hey Burners! Have been wondering about all the new permissions on apps these days. Facebook for one, has access to your calls, mic, even cameras on your phone. So my question is, are there apps available that notify you when the creepy fu@kers are looking through your shit?? Might get awkward when ol Zuckerberg is watching me, and I'm on You Porn! ;)
 
No sure but I always make sure my location settings are turned off, wifi is turned off (I enable on demand) and I log out of apps especially Facebook after each time I use them.

You could always photoshop Zuckerberg into compromising positions with a donkey and leave on your phone, soon enough you'll find out if they're checking your content.

I uninstalled FB since this recent change forcing the install of their messenger app.

The permissions it required were alarming. So FB is gone.

Aside from that, one thing to note is even if you log out and close apps, they are able to track data.

Getting a bit big brother for me.
 
iPhone users: "Whaaaaa, other apps have access to my messages!"
Windows phone user: "Yeah, so? They've been integrated with SMS and other services since day 1 in WinPhone". It's like iMessage.

As a windows phone user it's no difference to me. Yes, there's a new Messenger app, but you can still do messaging exactly the same way as you used to.
 
I think you have missed the point. There is no issue with cross-app communication. What is an iitue is how FB has released their new updates and the permissions the apps ask for have nothing to do with any actual functions of the app.

For example, the new FB messenger app is able to activate my camera or record my phone conversations without any input from me or feedback to me indicate it is doing so.

There is also no function in the app that actually allows me to perform those functions.

And to top it all off, the app can be controlled remotely without the users knowledge and thus it makes things a bit creepy

The Internet is full of paranoia about simple things . It cannot activate your camera etc
 
apart from the fact that none of it is actually true and merely an internet rumour for those stupid enough to believe everything they read online, even if it was i implore zuckerberg to watch the inside of my pocket and listen to me fart all day.

Yep, this. Why do they need access to these functions? I'm not being paranoid, just like to know why they need my personal shit. Wankers!

You want to send a photo with FB? It needs access, you want to take a photo/video? It needs access, you want to contact someone in your phone book with FB? It needs access.

That is pretty much what it comes down to, it doesn't just turn on your camera while your plugging your misses so the whole FB office can watch..

It actually doesn't 'bust' any myths as it's main premise is that the messenger app is no more intrustive then the main app.

And then it continues to validate one of the 'myths' about sending and editing of messages. Buts that's ok, because the company says it won't do anything bad with that. Does raise the question why that code was written?

And it can, in fact, activate your camera.

Cool, well that makes sense I guess! Crisis over. On the other hand though, they've got to expect a backlash of sorts, if they just say 'we need access to your stuff', and not explain it like Ride_Guy did. People are going to be protective. Anyway, I'm off to fap, paranoia free....

Do you have any evidence to support your post?

Since I am one of the ones 'stupid' enough to believe the rumours, I would love to see some evidence that the rumours are false.

Just because you are too stupid to understand why some if those functions are able to benefit FB, doesn't mean you should liken others to yourself.

FB gets it's income from marketing and advertising. Listening in on a call you make us useful marketing material.

Just the same as when you Google something you will find the ads you are shown in FB will be related to recent searches.

Google and FB have been doing this for sometime, but their new strategy is getting a bit invasive.
 
Lol so many people think they have privacy at all it's funny.....

The real scandal with the NSA recently is not that they spy on you but people are shocked they spy. look at the new data retention laws... you deleted that sexy SMS right your safe no one can see it... wrong stored for a pre determined amount of time. That snap chat you think you deleted nope guess again.... The best way of dealing with this is to finally realize you have no privacy and move on.

The permissions of any App on a smart phone simply allows that App to use certain functionality.
A good example is the permission to use your phones microphone. Hit a record audio icon within an App to record your farts so you can send the audio message to your mate will require that App to have access to your phones microphone.

You could of course use the native App on the phone for recording audio and then text that message to your friend but it involves a few more steps and it must be noted the native App to record audio still needs that same permission in the first place.

The big issue is when these permissions can be abused by hackers or even the App maker themselves down the track. I'm sure it will happen.

A key thing to remember about all the awesome free stuff we get in phone Apps and online content is that companies need to get money to provide stuff for free - how do they do that, by selling your information and online habits so they can target advertising to suit you based on their collected information.

If you don't like the fact all the free stuff is provided so They can harvest your information don't use it, don't use Facebook, don't use Google and only access the web using a paid proxy service so your activity is private.

I'm starting to get some really weird ads on my computer lately...:behindsofa:
 
You also realise that Johnny on here is a spy right? Everything you say goes straight to China..... I never said he was our spy.....
