Mr Greenfield
Sorry for the thread necro

Dubai. Who's done it? Looking at a Technical managers role running cinema services business around the MENA.

Owner of the business hasn't put forward a salary offer yet, but a key supplier tells me he was desperately trying to poach people at the recent trade show with an upper end figure in USD that's just fucking silly, and free accommodation so it's got my attention.

I've never been there but I've worked in other places with similar levels of adjustment required. You have to be resilient and cannot be complacent when existing in places like that.

I've dropped into Dubai for a work conference thing for a few days. It is just fuggin' hot even late in the evening. Plenty of sand too.

I like hot weather but Dubai heat goes over the level of suck. The locals aren't stupid enough to go out in the afternoon. See the big buildings and have a look around and plan an exit.

Here is one of the better bits though. Damn it is high.

Is back!
In my line of work people pay me good money to hurt them. Repeatedly.

I'm a remedial therapist. I spent four years plus in uni and it cost me a ridiculous amount of money to spend the last 12 years of my working life having a certain class of people tell me I'm a hippy woo woo whatever....the reality of my work is dealing with client's injuries/illnesses, attempting to talk them through stretches, lifestyle changes and diet choices etc that will help them correct said injuries/illnesses and fuming over the lifestyle choices that means most of my clients will either go to a GP and expect a magic pain killer pill to fix it or as some of them do, go through multiple surgeries and still end up on my table in pain. I don't have all the answers but it does still pain me to see easily fixable issues complicated by poor choices. And I'm perfectly happy to refer a client onto another therapy that can help them if I can't.

why do I do it still? I'm not sure, because beating my head against a brick wall would probably end up as the same result at times. How many times do I treat clients for injuries caused by a "personal trainer" with six weeks of "training" under their belt and yet....

I'm also a horticulturalist with 25 years experience. Don't mind wielding a chainsaw tho I'd rather not work on a crew like my last one - had a political refugee with PTSD, a Bipolar with ASD and PTSD, an ex-con with no social conscience and ADHD, a shitzophrenic, and I was expected to nanny the lot whilst making sure they were safe with power tools.

My mate ran one of these such businesses, small scale logging, weed control and waterway Managment. 140ish staff on chainsaws, no idea how he did it and kept his marbles.

Have come across people on rotorburn that ask about a fella named " spanky ham " something like that name anyway, mayhave answers for you. there was a piggy called spanky that showed up at the slaughterhouse a couple of weeks ago ( if you are his friend block your eyes ) He arrived on the back of a truck, was unloaded then sodded as the locals are apt to do, gassed, bled and then carved up for all you to eat him :sorry: As for as hit or miss as a job wel,l what do you think.

Work in a bike shop. Can be both great fun and a total drag. This is directly determined by the customer you have to deal with at the time. Working on bikes is cool and rewarding. Getting stuff cheap is also sweet but with the online store options these days the public gets the same deals really. Shit, even I buy stuff online because it can be cheaper than buying it from the wholesaler. I've got a cool enough boss and crew that we all catch up for a ride on any public holiday as it's the only time we can all ride together. This is the best job I've had in terms of workload/responsibility/fun balance. Yeah, I can't complain.

Can you elaborate on this mate ? Do you mean culture/law/etiquette change ?

I'm an IT Service Specialist/Writer/Social Media butterfly. I write reviews and such for Rotorburn, using products I get given through promotion deals on Instagram.

Thanks for all the bananas
I run my own business building email templates for marketing agencies.

I've been doing digital services for agencies for the past decade and the constant hustle feels like 10 years of fight or flight. I've considered a Gov job but there's fuck all of them in Cairns and I reckon I'm totally unsuited to hard processes and fuckwittery.
