But is it ok to sell the car and allow someone else to drive it?

Was having a car free life discussion yesterday. Australia really isn't designed to make it easy.
I think now might be a good time to buy myself an SSV wagon. All of the powers, while dino juice is still cheap :)

MEPS needs to be widened across all industries and all products, not just the heavy hitters!
the irony of it is, that we are all ok to sit on our computers, in our air conditioned homes writing bullshit about its everybody else causing CC not me!
the world is fucked, yes we need to drastically reduce global consumption and pollution, but we also need to produce and manufacture mass amounts of equipment to combat climate change.
but this all come at a cost, you can't make solar panels out of butterfly farts, you need shitloads of coal based power to run those factories, and even more raw materials and chemicals dug up out of the ground to make stuff
we are currently too far away from the end goal to make a real impact

I actually think MEPS has exhausted it's useful ability to reduce CC impacts. Pump fan and motor design has not really changed much in the last 30 years and we are flat-lining in terms of technology improvements. All MEPS currently stands to do is offer the established manufacturers protection from cheap Chinese junk - which in itself is not bad but the flip side is they are not trying to think about the materials component of resource use. They effectively still based on a model of selling more. Sure some companies are trying to shift to a consumption model but I haven't seen much to lead me to believe this could work at the consumer level.

Basically comes down to growth economy.

It's like smacking a dead horse in the head, Australians seem to have a problem with authority so if a government can't lead by example it's not going to lead at all. Their answer to fix CC is to build bigger and better, more efficient and sell more stuff that we don't need, how about people turn their appliances off at the wall when not in use and put on more clothing instead of running around the house in their jocks in the middle of winter with the reverse cycle aircon going or waiting till there's a full load of washing to be done before turning the washing machine on, use the sun to dry your clothes not the clothes dryer because it takes an hour and it's more convenient for you so that you get an 1hr more to sip a Latte with your friends. The world is truly fucked and we're following countries like the US down their dirty hole of capitalism, we just haven't learnt.
