Get another set of keys made up, with my Dmax we just got a crappy key cut without all the electronics in case I lock the fob in the car, never needed it but was cheap to get cut from the local lock smiths (ordered blank with similar sizing off ebay).
But yes, the cards do have a physical key inside it for use on one door in case of electrical fails… That I should have cut on the spare!

Normally it’s impossible to lock the keys inside though. This was a freak situation caused by using a dead battery to unlock the boot that must have gotten the central locking confused. Or something…

Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes
Say you were a lunatic who happened to buy a space frame chassis track car. And you wanted to add a motech ECU, traction control and an ABS unit to it. Specs would be 330kw, 700kg.

But for a bit more money you could buy a written off Tesla 3 dual motor and do a transplant, to get all the same functionality, plus all wheel drive. Weight would go up but would also get 40kw extra.

What would you do?

For a circuit with lots of slow and accelerating the EV instant torque monster things would be fun

How many laps would you be able to do with the Tesla gear? I assume charging stations are popping up at most tracks in Aus these days so probably not even an issue.

On a side note this sounds something like Andy Forrest would be into his time attack builds are awesome.

Or even on your way home

This guy is building his own cyber roadster from a crashed 3

Or the famed Teslonda, this thing was huge at the Day of Drags a couple years ago in California.

The founder of powercruise was running his Tesla S in the drags a few years ago and got at least 4 good drag runs out of it before taking it back to charge.

You've given up on the GTR already?

Nope but it is a heavy beast at 1800kg. Eats tyres and brakes at a prodigious rate.

Track toy weighs 700kg so much easier on consumables and makes it easier/cheaper to get weekly seat time.

PS the GTR is still getting a turbo/gearbox/LSD/suspension/rear diffuser upgrade. It will be the ultimate 1000 whp Q car, the BMWs won't see where it went.

After forever
That's exactly what I used, but it doesn't seem to sit right. I'm putting it down to variances in clutch/pressure plate/flywheel overall thickness.

Just draining 3 litres of fresh fluid out of the box :(

Didn't even get a chance to see how it drives!
I pulled the box out and saw that the wire from the coil to the ignition module had been destroyed, hence the no start. Fixed that and it started.

Whilst the box was out I had another look at the clutch and adjusted the pivot ball so that the fork was square to the input shaft at the start of the pedal travel. Took it for a drive and pretty quickly realised that I fucked it up. There was a rattle from inside the bellhousing that only went away when the clutch pedal was pressed halfway so I'm gathering that's the TO bearing.

The clutch take up point was pretty high which I wasn't happy with. Other than that, it went fine, changed gears fine.

Spoke to Mal Wood and he tells me that the clutch fork needs to be square to the input shaft at half pedal travel. That would put the clutch take up point closer to the floor which makes sense.

Now just got to find the enthusiasm to pull it all apart again!

I never understood who so many manufactures put the clutch bite point on or near the floor - seems just so wrong. Maybe its a french car thing im used to, but you want the clutch pedal doing something when you press it - not just after you've pressed it most of the way in.

Do you have the electrical knowhow (or access to someone who does) to do the Tesla swap? Would be one question and I suppose charging options would be another. How many laps do you get to a charge and can you recharge at the track? All depends on how you want to use it I suppose.
You could always chuck a turbo Busa motor in it!

Before Wakefield closed down (re-opening soon) there was talk of getting a Diesel generator for those who want to do Tesla/Electric car days at the track.
