can i nominate my wife for again letting di2 battery run out? lucky was on a group ride to day and not the cancelled wollongong ride on the weekend. i might have even been faster up the hills than she would be stuck in one gear.
Its almost like you need a tag on your bike rack or in the car to put it on charge.

Another minor but still awkward exercise... some time ago I'd discovered I needed to buy a new fitting to bleed the newish SRAM Guides that were originally on my Stumpjumper. Had an attempt at bleeding it, never really succeeded and put the whole thing aside for a more suitable time.

Anyway, after much procrastinating (and swapping brakes between two bikes) I decided it was time to go bleed the SRAM brakes and see if they'd still be functional. Got the new Bleeding edge gadget out, discovered the bleed port was not easy to open, and instead of doing the sensible thing and getting a hex key to open it up, decided to put more leverage on it with a set of pliers. Cue snapping the bleeding edge port fitting in the caliper. Managed to extract it without too much effort, then had to go buy another bleed kit just to get the fancy SRAM fitting. That took two weeks to turn up before I could get back to bleed the brakes again...

Second bleed took all of 5 minutes and worked magically, including the observation that the bleed port didn't want to open with the new kit either.

Well fuck me!

I just burried a fair bit of pocket money into a new crank for my scout. I was very excited about this and am looking forward to it's arrival and installation. Now first off there isn't anything wrong with the crank on there. I just wanted to get something new so I could feel alive.

Just now one of my friends has grabbed a few bits and pieces off me (a seat and some grips) which has lead to me digging around on the garage for a specific seat. Of course in that process I found a brand new, in the box, unused, still wrapped up in factory plastic and grease, Shimano Saint cranks and bottom bracket.

Welcome to getting old poods. Is it onset of early dementia or a busy life where we get so consumed by other shit, we forget what we have, have done, have said, have heard and apparently were told.

New bike needed for those spare Saints :p

Looking at steel CX bikes. Big (for roadies) tyres and weird angled drop bars, titanium bottle cages, steel forks and carbon rims…… fucksake.
Something lugged and brazed and expensive, painted black so it looks no different to those reid frames from a distance of more than 2 feet. Ideally ss.

I need to go for a ride again. I always go down shameful rabbit holes when it’s been awhile between pedals.
It’s ok, I was too. Then I rode the roadie with skinny 28mm tyres a few more times on the commute to work and realised I just need to harden the fuck up and just send it on the rough stuff and remember how to bloody ride. It’s good now :)

Posting on behalf of the 99 bikes employee who, when I asked for an XT threaded bottom bracket, asked me “that’s the road bike one isn’t it?”.
I normally go into 99 bikes with the web page of what I want loaded on my phone and say I'll have this, this and that and just show them the SKUs. Saves the fuckwittery on their end at least and I'm the fwit if I chose the wrong thing.
PS if you need a BB spanner I have one that fits an XT BB if you can be bothered driving north side.

Edit I am a fuckwit for thinking what is on 99 bikes website is correct! The XTR BB was not XTR but they happily refunded it and I saved $2 buying the XT one.
