Thanks all for the comments so far, sorry for the f-wit original post that didn't say much. Its so hard to reply with so many comments and ideas but here goes.
I've lost the argument on why we don't need a 7 seater but I'm not looking for a full on people mover that can seat 7 adults comfortably. 5 real seats plus 2 usable for kids / teens if needed, is a satisfactory compromise acceptable to all.
Yes I'm Odyssey curious but cant see myself ever driving one
Delica if it was for me as a getaway van I'd happily have a L400, doesnt look like any of the D5's are in WA and I cant see the wife driving one either.
Territory, I had one previously as a work car luckily I didn't have to pay the fuel bill enough said...
XC90 seems semi interesting, reasonably priced Euro luxury a bit like a Q7 I guess. My best mate had a diesel one and something broke, the so called Swedish car experts who were servicing it were clowns and had no idea what they were doing and it became his expensive Euro driveway ornament, that he sold not running to a wrecker.
So far the Koreans seem to be in the front running, as we looked at and drove some 2015/16 Santa Fe's and Sorento's today that seemed ok even with over 100K on them.
Q7s can be ok, a few messages? mates have had that platform (Q7, Cayenne, Touareg) as tow pigs for race cars. There are quite a few things that must be done to stop them self destructing though and a couple of factory options to be avoided. Having said that, I'm not brave enough to own one out of warranty.
Tell me more on what needs to be done to prevent self destruct and what to avoid as I'm still V A G curious. The original idea I had in mind of a "nice family car" that could be used for soccer mum duties and family touring was a 7P V6 tdi Touareg (preferably a 4xmotion), which is where the Q7 idea morphed from.
