If you like good sound quality and actually understand what you're on about you'll know that there's nothing wrong with the way an iPod reproduces a signal. If you're genuinely concerned about sound quality, there's no cure better than a good parametric equaliser and a good pair of headphones...
The sound quality from an ipod is as good as any other player out there. output response is nearly dead flat unless you use low impedance headphones (like the standard ones) in which case you'll lose just a bit of low bass.
I've owned my ipod for two years now and dropped it on concrete from a decent height several times and it's fine. Unbelieveably well built little player. Maybe I got lucky.
Anyone who buys a Mac or argues that pcs are better/worse because of the speed isn't addressing the real reasons for wanting one or the other. I wouldn't care less if a G5 is only half as fast as the latest PC box, (and who knows, that might even be the case) I'd still buy one.
