I just bought some second hand 2008 Marzocchi dj1's.
The forks when adjusted properly have a lot of play in them between the headtube and the steerer but then another quarter of a turn on the star nut locks up the steering, but theres still a tiny bit of play what can be causing this because my old manitous were fine in there so i dont think its the bike.

Did you remove the crown race off the Manitous and place it on the Marzocchi?

The crown race is a component of the headset that ensures the bearings sit flush against the crown.

Headsets have various bearing/crownrace angles (degrees), yours are a matching set ?If that,s all sweet, you may have some bushing play in your forks - possibly in need of replacement ..

It sounds more like a headset problem than a problem with the forks.....
