2011 Morewood bikes

New models:

Based on a completely new formed tubeset with forged and CNC machined swingarm plates, postmount direct rear brake tab, tapered 1 1/8” to 1 1⁄2” headtube, ISCG05 chainguide mounts and a new XPI single pivot design allowing for multiple geometry adjustments. The 2011 Izimu is 100% value and 110% performance.

More info on the XPI Geometry adjust:

Building on the proven reliability of the SPI and SPI2 systems, XPI offers riders simple and effective geometry adjustments in a lightweight, neat and compact design. Using an offset eccentric at the heart of the design, the XPI pivot allows riders to fine-tune chainstay length [wheelbase], headtube angle and bottom bracket height within a wide range of usable parameters. These adjustments can be made quickly and easily with only the need of two allen-keys. The XPI pivot cap has four engravings for base-level adjustments which, with a “standard” fork setup are as follows:
A: 65° Head angle, long chainstay B: 64.5° Head angle, longest chainstay C: 65° Head angle, short chainstay D: 65.5° Head angle, shortest chainstay
The absolute minimum and maximum adjustments are as follows:
Head angle: +/- 1⁄2° Bottom bracket height: +/- 7mm Wheelbase: +/- 6mm
* For 2011 the XPI will be offered as a standard feature on the Izimu frames and will be available as an optional after-market upgrade for the 2011 180mm Freeride frames.
**See the following pages with charts clearly detailing the range of adjustments available with the XPI. ***referenced head angles are with standard 565mm axle to crown fork.

ZAMA 180mm Freeride:

Re-introduced for 2011, the Freeride 180mm is once again based on the platform of the Izimu with its feature-rich 2011 re-design. Offering all of the top shelf performance characteristics and technologies as the Izimu [save for the XPI Geometry Adjust] the 180mm Freeride is once again set to take its place in the Morewood stable.

150mm Split-pivot::

This is the bike we have all been waiting for: licensing the famed Dave Weagle designed Split Pivot, Pat and the design team have worked tirelessly to bring to market what is perhaps the most anticipated frame model in the history of Morewood bikes. Finely tuned with the characteristics riders have come to love and expect from Morewood, this 150mm travel platform fits perfectly where the Shova and Mbuzi left off.
More info on Split Pivot:
CREDIT: DAVE WEAGLE, SPLIT PIVOT www.split-pivot.com
On May 18, 2010, Dave Weagle, the creator of the World Champion and internationally acclaimed dw-link suspension was awarded US Patent 7,717,212 for his SPLIT PIVOT concentric dropout pivot suspension technology.
What is SPLIT PIVOT?
Split Pivot is a patented suspension system for high performance bicycles, where traction, efficiency, manoeuvrability, and frame stiffness are important factors on the track and trail. Split Pivot’s *concentric dropout pivot] is the heart of this new design. Shaped by Dave Weagle's competition proven engineering and testing process, each unique Spilt Pivot frame is engineered to combine the best performance traits of single pivot and long arm linkage suspensions. Split Pivot is all about having fun on the trail, and each unique suspension layout is designed to offer a ride that will make you smile no matter what your riding style or ability level.
How does it work?
Split Pivot is a [concentric dropout pivot] design that separates acceleration forces from braking forces in the suspension. The system reduces excess suspension reaction to acceleration forces, and at the same time reduces excess reaction to braking forces. Braking neutrality can be tuned independently of acceleration characteristics, and suspension feel can be tuned by varying leverage ratio curves in a wide range of options. It’s no secret that mountain bikers like individuality, and the Split Pivot design lends itself to a wide range of different looking and performing designs. With so many possible mechanical layouts, not every Split Pivot bike looks or performs the same. Shock layout can be vertical, horizontal, floating or even driven by a modifier link. This variability let’s Dave tune the suspension performance and feel to each manufacturing partner’s preference giving each Split Pivot bike its own personality unique to each brand.
Split Pivot bikes are tools for having fun, and each is carefully engineered to offer a ride that will make you want to be on your bike more often.

Kwela Carbon, 29” and level 1 [Yebo]:
With the success of the Kwela in 2010 it was only a natural progression to build on the solid foundation it laid down. Based on this popular chassis, the Kwela 29” is exactly what the name suggests. Offering riders the full benefits of the 29” platform with its proven performance, this is certain to be a favourable choice in the rapidly growing 29” market.

Kwela Carbon:
Another first for Morewood sees the introduction of its first carbon fibre frame: using the best grade, high-modulus carbon fibre, combined with keen design features including; BB30 bottom bracket, tapered 1 1/8” to 1 1⁄2” headtube, postmount direct brake tab and of course finely tuned geometry, this ultra-light heavy-hitter is set ready to climb the ranks.

Model updates:
Makulu:It would be silly to make changes to the bike that Dirt Magazine still considers the benchmark by which all other production downhill bikes are compared, however Morewood is all about pushing the envelope. The 2011 Makulu sees the introduction of three frame sizes to further cater for rider’s needs, additionally the LowLev linkage is refined to better perform with a wider range of rear shock offerings on the market as well as offer a more progressive overall kinematic.
