NSW 2012 Rock Wallaby - 50km Half Marathon - Appin 27 May

Having last year defeated some and giving quite a few a swift kick in the bum, the Rock Wallaby has been busily gnawing on old MTB tyres in preparation for the this years event! The course is pretty similar to last year and the rockin' trails of Appin have held up well against the weather BUT this year the bogs on the south side are gone!

What's tops about this furry little critter:

- Only an hour from Sydney
- Leisurely 9.30 am start time
- Proper mountain biking over a 25km circuit of rockin' trails of Appin - 92% singletrack!

Who is in? Looking forward to this one, time to get back on the mountain bike and race some singletrack after a few cruisy dirt road races.

Are there any plans to change the format of the start? Last year's start with two laps of the oval before filing everyone through the narrow gap in the fence didn't really work that well - major bottleneck at the fence, again at the creek, then slow conga lines for at least the first 5k of single track.

Yep, our plan is to have staggered starts according to category & distance. We'll figure these out and advertise them in the rider confirmation next week. Hopefully this will help with the bottlenecks, and we've also reconfigured the course to include more firetrail at the start too.

Rock Wallaby Course Update

Saturday brought us the news that the trails on the south side of the course are just too waterlogged to be any kind of fun despite the drainage work we put in earlier in the month. But, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining and with the collective knowledge of Appin's trail gurus, WBMC, Google earth and lots of Kms under the knobs, we have crafted a very tasty course that contains some new sections of reclaimed and 'refurbished' moto singletrack as well as all the great stuff that you rode last year. The only downside is that we've brought the lap length back a little to around 22km, but after last year’s impressive DNF rate we don't think that too many of you will miss that final 3km!

Entries close midnight on Wednesday!

Great write up as after having ridden Appin the other day and with the forecast wasnt looking forward to a wet track which included pre - bridge as that is very narly.
Looking forward to the weekends race.

I rode the track this morning and it is looking very good for tomorrows race. A few short muddy sections, but nothing that should worry anyone at race pace and much better than it has been.
