Townsville Rockwheelers in conjunction with the Cairns and Atherton Mountain Bike Clubs are re-establishing the North Queensland Downhill Series. The 2015 series will comprise 4 rounds with a race at each of the hosting clubs tracks and a final round at Townsville. Points from each round will be used to crown the overall series champion.
Round 1 is at Townsville's Mt Stuart Course, a high speed, rough rocky trail that was the site of the 2010 QLD state championships.
Round 2 will be at Atherton on the Ricochet, a fitting name for this track as you bounce between a series of huge berms just like a bullet fired into a steel barrel. The track is super fun and flowy.
Round 3 will be at the Cairns Smithfield track that needs no introductions. It has been the site of National and World Cup events. The trails are technical and open up into speed sections, every rider will be put to the test.
Round 4 returns to Townsville on a different section of the Mt Stuart Complex.
Downhill is the fastest and most spectacular form of mountain bike racing. This series promises to re invigorate Downhill racing with more riders bringing more action and better racing. For those unfamiliar with Downhill racing, it is a category of mountain bike races where riders race down steep hills at high speed over impossible obstacles in the shortest possible time.
