Altitude Mapping Software

Hi

Am looking for software that I can use to find the optimal path down a an undulating slope. When i say optimal, I mean using the downward slope/gradient everywhere possible. I am working on an 6km sloping stretch of bushland but it does ascend in sections.

I have been using this site (https://www.daftlogic.com/sandbox-google-maps-find-altitude.htm) to pinpoint a descending path but it is a bit clunky to use.

Is very easy to plot out a trail, and gives elevation and distance data as you plot. You'll need to use a bit of trial and error to optimise the fall but you can delete individual plot points as you go. Might be a good starting point, you can download the GPS file into something a bit more accurate to fine tune.

Thanks Knuckles. This is perfect. Can you attest to its accuracy?

Not really, have only used it to map out a loop near my place, and it's as flat as a tack. Returns an elevation difference of 16m over 5km, so it looks to be fairly fine. Uses hybrid google maps so I'd say it'd be as accurate as the site you've been using.

Could go old school, and take a water tanker up, drop it's guts and follow the water to the bottom...
