A lot of guys here seem to do it, but I'm wondering how I can get myself into it.
Is it as easy as getting more kms in legs, learning to fix a puncture and buying a full face?
My brother-in-law has just bought an enduro rig and I'm keen to fit more riding in as it's a blast, but I can't find much online on getting into the discipline. I'm not keen on getting big air or trying to place, just more for the challenge

Nah man, it's about getting some pit vipers, saying yewwwww, setting up a POV go pro (that not even ya mum would watch), having the latest carbonz, new DHARCO kit, detachable chin bar and smashing the IPA's post ride after opening them with ur frame bottle opener.

Seriously though, grab a few mates and a couple of cans (for after) then go punch some laps.
If you can manage a 20-30km ride with 1000m climbing you'll piss it in. A lot of these grade 3 flow wankers forget no matter how seriously they take their training some 14 yo on a clapped out giant will school them.

Have fun and make sure you give shit to ya mates.

Figured something like that might be the way to go

That is more in the rear and same in the front as my scout. I hold Tha bike back, not the other way around...

For me the issue with short travel frames is their stiffness. I don't mind pushing it a little bit and have had a few problems with frame flexing, especially in the rear end. So if you can find a frame with stuff as fuck tubing you'll be sweet and possibly in a better position for pedalling up the hills.

Short of punching it hard into a rock garden I don't think there is much that would slow the right frame down. Back in the glorious days of my pivot m4x the only part of the ourimbah dh track that I was uncomfortable on was the mega rocky chute.

Nothing will motivate you more than signing up for an event. I've raced with the WAGE crew a few times and it was great and very chill. Even if the event is there stages but you can only manage to complete one or two of them it's no stress and will give you something to work towards for the next one.

I WISH they got that old first... Besides, all the young kids are on uberbikes. It's the 60yo's on clapped out giants schooling me.

@Rorschach, you'll have a blast. Racing GE for me, and most people I know, is about a fun day on the bike, on usually fairly unknown trails, with bunting up for fun, a timing chip to motivate you to pedal/let off the brakes, and a chance to talk shit with your mates on climbs and rest spots. It's always a great atmosphere, and while the odd endurbro pops up, and the u15's talking non stop of sending it and hucking the world can be a bit tiresome, enduro races are the highlight of my year. You don't need to be crazy fit to get through one, but the fitter I am, the more I enjoy the descents. Getting up the hills is easy, you can walk as much as you want, but struggling with mates will make the whole thing more fun.
Don't listen to haters like @Daniel Hale, he's as faddy as they come, and wouldn't know what a a GE event looked like if he pretended to help run one.

Any training you have put into place or recommend?

Ride like fuck for 15 months preparing for the TransTas Enduro, then go into isolation the day before flying out.
My training recommendation.....never take training advice from me. I'm a hedonist, i ride because I enjoy it. If it looks like proper training, or a program, I'm out.
My DH and Enduro results have improved dramatically because I have the legs left when some of the older blokes don't. Unfortunately, my skills are still shite, so if they have skills, and anything resembling fitness, I'm screwed.
