Buller: accommodation for Natl's

hi. first post on farkin. i'm heading down to Buller this w/e for a Nationals, beerfest, and to ride a bit of DH. never been there. anybody have any recommendations where to stay? cheap accommodation or camping with close access to beer is good.

I'm staying at Avalanche for the first time. About $55 per head.

I've stayed at Arlberg before. Its close to the trails and they let us keep our bikes in the room. About $180 for a room that sleeps 5 + private bathroom.

Plenty of other options

You can camp at the bottom of the mountain at Mirimbah , about a 20 minute drive up to the village but the nearest beer is at Merrijig. (best to byo). Merrijig is a 30 minute drive from Buller village , but I've stayed at Merrijig lodge before , $25 a head and 100m from the pub. Their number is 035777 5590. Pretty basic , but they have a swimming pool , which you'll be thankful for , it will be stinking hot down there this weekend :)

Second vote for the Arlberg. Its the same elevation as the Horse Hill chairlift so its an easy flat ride over to the start of the trails in the morning.

Tis hard work walking your bike from the Buller village to the chairlift!
