On Sat 6 Dec 2014, Mt Buller will launch its latest and greatest trail – the Australian Alpine Epic. This 40km trail is the first IMBA accredited Epic model trail in the Southern Hemisphere, which means that it offers an iconic and diverse backcountry ride experience. Check it out: http://vimeo.com/107429493

Depending on your level of riding, it will take anywhere between 4-7 hours to complete, with the 10km descent at the end being a major highlight!

We’re launching it as part of an Epic Festival weekend, which includes the Banff Radical Reels Film Festival, a sat night Epic party including a pump track comp under lights, a Poker Ride and plenty more! Check out the details here: http://bike.mtbuller.com.au/epic_launch.php

So who’s going to make history by being one of the first riders to hit this trail?!?

Hi Mt Buller,

Just wondered if the trail would be ride-able before the 'official' launch? It's just that we're heading up that way a couple of weeks before the launch, would be great if we could give it a spin.

cheers.

Unfortunately we'll be doing work on the Epic right up until the launch so it won't be available to ride on until 6 Dec sorry!

Also, it's worth noting that we commence a rolling opening of our trail network from the start of Nov onwards - making trails available as soon as we've finished getting them up to scratch post-winter - with the whole network being open on 6 Dec (along with the Epic) at the official start of our MTB season. So make sure you check out our trail report before you arrive so that you know which trails will be available:http://bike.mtbuller.com.au/trail_report.php

We also post our various trail openings on our Bike Buller Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BikeBuller?ref=bookmarks

See you up here!

I'm heading up with some friends, been wanting to ride there for years!

I've heard about the Epicentre, but can't see where it or Telephone Box Junction are on the trail map (or other maps). Help a brother out?

Hi there,

Epicentre is located at TBJ on Mt Stirling, which sits outside of our current MTB trail map (you can see a note about its general direction in the middle top of our current MTB map). It's also noted more clearly here on our Stirling ski trail map (second page).

We're currently developing our 2014/15 MTB maps which will look at how we can cover things like the Epicentre and the new Epic trail - both of which are proving difficult due to the scope of the area that they cover!

Might sound like a dumb question, but when you reach the bottom of the Epic Trail, what options do you have to get back to the top? (Shuttle, ride, etc). I assume you are not supposed to ride the Epic track in reverse?
