does anyone know the size of the bottom bracket on the cannondale f7?

They appear to be a standard 68mm / 73mm English thread, square taper, though I'm just going by what's on Cannondale and FSA websites.

so would a 170mm chainset fit into my bottom bracket?

170mm is the length of the crank arms and doesn't tell you anything about BB fit.

Sounds to me like you'd be best to seek some advice from your LBS.
