Carpentry and bikes: The "MountainBikeMike" Logo!

Hi guys and gals,

Over the last few months I went about making this logo for myself. I got the piece of burl Myrtle from the woodshow in Melbourne two years ago with this in mind, and only spent the last 3-4 months working on it. But the ideas added up over those two years and its so great to finally have something I can see and touch that shows my passion for both mountain biking and working with my hands.

Its my first piece working on a burl. Mostly made with a router to varying depths. A fair bit of wood burning going on to, with 5 layers of glaze over the top. Around 25-30 hours build time all up, which I'm very happy with :). Quick! The left badge is my 1st place in sport medal in the VDHS. The three pieces of chain are quick linked together, and the drawing on the left is me in Whistler, 2010, traced and hand drawn/burned :) That part didn't come up very bright though unfortuantely when the glaze went over the top.

If anyone else has done work like this, please don't hesitate to share it in this thread!

Mike

Theres only a couple of Flickr photos, more photos on facebook with a few of the actual build process (which I should have documented better..

Awesome, really pops from a more side on view. Getting that outline on the lettering with the router must have been time consiming. :thumb:

Thanks mate.

Thats the beauty of working with wood, which ever way you look at it- is that if you make a mistake just once, theres rarely ever a way to repair or hide the damage/miss. Or if you do, its hard to make it blend in.

Theres a few things in here that went wrong but because theres so much detail and so much going on you don't really notice. Bit cluttered.. but I like attenion to detail haha
