lol yeah. my car is either a escort van or a ute of some sort. as long as i can take bertha around with me(my bike) a 4wd ute is awfully tempting.

Why do people buy cars to go fast? Unless you want to spend $100k modding the shit out of it (or better yet, buy a car that's actually designed to go FAST, eg Ferrari Enzo etc), you're gonna get absolutely blown away by any half-decent motorbike.
Make-----------------Top Speed---0-100kph---0-160kph-----20-180kph

Suzuki Hayabusa-----311kph------3.15secs----5.44secs-----5.86secs
Lamborghini Diablo---295kph------4.90secs----9.37secs----10.41secs

if you want to go fast get a motorbike!!! (look @ that 20-180 for the hayabusa => 5.86 secs!!! HOLLLLY SHHHIIIIITT! thats farkin insane considering a hayabusa probably costs about 1/20th or less...top speed = 311kph  )
but the question is, do u like being alive??

ease up socket. we dont speed when we drive, just go hard to 60. or a bit over. but we never endanger ourselves, we are not that stupid.
Hayabusa done not have the appeal of a nice car. u said urself why speed? nothing needs to get to 100 that fast. its over the top. and on a motorbike would be a good 10 times more dangerous than a car.
No, I didn't say why speed. I said why go for the "thrill" of speed in something more expensive and less thrilling?

I appreciate nice cars as in practical purposes. A decent engine doesn't hurt, but why try and get something to go fast that just isn't ever gonna go as fast as something half the price?

Motorbikes ARE more dangerous than cars, definitely. But isn't the increased danger the reason people want to go fast(er)?

Some people like the feel of hard acceleration, and sharp cornering, whilst sitting in their climate controlled leather coccoon.
The car vs moto thing is a bit silly, and shouldn't come into the equation IMO.

Fair enough, cars are more comfortable. And I wouldn't really want a slow one either (by slow I mean REALLY slow), any power is better than no power I guess. But my point is that if you are really after good acceleration and high speed, cars aren't really the way to do it (again, unless you can afford a really top-end car).

At the drags at Calder on Friday, there were two street-legal cars, one a VL Commodore, and one an 89 Skyline, which were doing under 9. Yes, that will blow off most (all?) bikes, and definitely fits my description of a "real" fast car. But they are still highly modified (probably not original engines or anything, but I don't really know), and from what I heard, they weren't exactly cheap either (ie couple of hundred grand sunk into em).

Which goes to show: cars (eventually) can go fast(er). Motorbikes can just do it affordably.

I agree with your points, but it's a bit like saying "I want my mtb to roll fast" and then someone suggesting you just buy a recumbant. Bikes are cool, I want one (but have held off purchase, to increase my lifespan), but it's hard breaking people out of their car mentality.

Cos that Intense truckamathingy is cool... jumping trucks are insane! They can just hoon at/over/through everything.

(Yes, I'm aware that motorbikes are even easier to jump)

i didnt think the intense truck sounds like a whippersnipper that thing farkin fly,s in chainsmoke 2 i would love one of them if i could afford it

peachy

Ripe 'n ready!
$19,000 for a very fast motor bike = $10,000 medical bills if not death + being quadraplegic + tiny thrill before the crash + bye bye happy trails

OR

$10,000 for second hand slow car + $9000 left to buy a sweet arse bike = driving around safely with a madc0re bike in the back

i know which one i'd choose

Well, this is a complex issue, but there's a few simple things:

Socket: you buy a car because you want a car. I agree, that if you are purely in search of performance, regardless of form, then you bet a bike, but saying why bother with a fast car is exactly the same as saying why bother with a mtb, especially when you can get a MX bike for the price of a top DH rig, have more travel, jump bigger and go shitloads faster. They are two completely different entities, both with their own merits, and shouldn't be compared like this; but in the intrest of comparisom, a bike would only be a second vehicle for me because: I can carry heaps of stuff in my car, including my pushy, I can carry other people in it, I can sleep in the back of it (thank god for that), and when it starts to piss down outside I can stay nice and dry inside (and so can all my stuff).

To anybody who's going to go:
"maaaaaate, those little turbo things are so crap, you gotta have a big V8 donk up front, flanno in the drivers seat and a slab on the backseat"
or alternatively :
"oh bro, my hot 4 so shit's all over those bogans in their V8s man. It's like fully sick ya know?"

PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ARSE! Fast cars come in all shapes and sizes, some rely on forced induction, some rely on huge capacity and some rely on all sorts of gizmos, but they all put out large amounts of power. If you prefer one sort for whatever reason great, you buy one of them, but at least learn to appreciate that althought some V8s might rely on dinosaur technology they can still get the grunt, that's impressive. Also very impressive is the amount of power that comes out of the atmo 6 in the M3, or the speed and value of something like a WRX.

Now back to the topic...I don't think I'd ever drive around in something with a huge bodykit and neon lights, no matter what was under the bonnet; can you say "cop magnet"? But by the same token I'd rather not drive around in something that looks like it just got into a fight with a mack truck, they also attract lots of attention, for defect purposes.
My own tastes lean towards something that is clean and straight, but low key. Interior though is another matter. I would much prefer to have something that is closer to the limo end of the spectrum. Like said previously, cars are more comfortable than bikes, so why not make them as much so as possible?
What I think I would really like though, is something along the lines of an HR, maybe ute, relatively stock on the outside, but with sorted suspension and brakes, and maybe a V6 or something under the bonnet (you don't need huge amounts of power) and with a nicely redone modern style luxo interior. Something with some understated style.

all depends on what you prefer and what gives you a bigger ego - if a big engine does it for you and you don't give toss about body - then engine is way to go - if looks do it for you and you can give a toss about engine - then go looks

i prefer looks - cause in aussie land you can't speed anywhere anyway - chicks i know don't dig big engines - and if i had a huge engined car i would just want to let it fly - a friend of mine has a supra and he drives it like a maniac but he's picked up some speeding fines

personally i do like a good engine though - but not to drive fast with - just to let people know that i can kick their butt anytime of the week and twice on sunday's if i wanted to use the engine capacity - when i drive my mates supra i only cruise around in 2nd gear at 40km/h - i am in for style

body and interior need to be nice

i agree heaps with the last comment - i would prefer a clean lined car with a nice engine and nice style - a balance of everything - not the best in one particular area - something that i can cruise around in and take it easy

this opens a whole new topic of 'what is living' - surely, being a mtber, you would have to agree that doing something risky makes living all worthwhile...otherwise youre just existing

sorry getting off topic, im not sure why i got into this topic, i think cars are one of the biggest evils in this world....but i could justify buying a moto...i'll refrain from posting irrelevant stuff in the future.

i agree wombat, my sisters ex had a rx-2. the cops did not leave him alone, they followed us in one of those unmarked coppa cars for 2hrs once(do they not have drugos to bust?). we were going 65 and we got fined. which is bullshit sa they have to allow 10% of the speed limit for shit speedos and different wheel sizes. i got my escort all woprked out. should be great when its finished. i can save $3000 by not getting an exhaust system, new mags and stereo. :D im happy
