The Castlemaine Rocky Riders 6-Hour is on Sunday August 19, 2012. This event is round 7 of the Victorian Enduro Series.

Different venue. Same level of awesome! This year it's a new trail located in the Walmer State Forest – just 5 minutes from Castlemaine CBD. It's a challenging and fun track with plenty of our famous Castlemaine rocks, flowing single track and technical climbs/descents that will turn the sternest race face into a cheesy grin.

Between laps keep you'll be able to carbo-load at the pizza and baked spuds vans and get your caffeine hit at the coffee van. Mmm coffee!

View full event details on the Rocky Riders website.

Which other CVRR events might people remember this venue from? Or is it quite literally brand new, never before used?

Looking forward to this one!

Does the track take in the new loop the other side of the road from the recent interwinter race?

I rode a loop a few weeks ago which had a sign "Didjs Run" at the start which climbed up the hill and came back down the gully. Brilliant track

The track isn't new, some sections would be approx 2 years old with other sections maybe older. This will be the first time a race has been held on it, so we're pretty excited about that. It's in a different area to the Interwinter race.

It's out in that direction but a slightly different area. Just as much fun though.

What's happening with accommodation? Can we camp/stay at the track the night before or should we be looking for it in town?

Good question. Sorry there's no camping allowed at this property but there are plenty of options in town.

Closest caravan park (a few minutes warm up ride from the race venue) is the Castlemaine Big 4.

Or if you want something fancy there are plenty of motels and B&Bs in town.

Here are some directions to the trails from Castlemaine CBD. You can park in town and ride out or drive your car but Youngmans Track is is best in a 4WD or at least a car with a good bit of clearance. Park on Woodbrook and ride is also an option. On race day the event HQ will be on private property at a different location adjacent to the trails. Cars of all makes will be able to access the event carpark.

Download a GPX and KML file of the tracks here or view some details on Garmin Connect. These are the trails of the enduro but not the exact same loop. We'd like to keep a little bit of mystery for the day.

Also if you're coming up Saturday 18th and need a good feed for dinner we recommend heading to the Theatre Royal in the centre of town. Mention you're riding the Rocky Riders Enduro to the staff and they'll give you 20% off your bill. (Sat night only 4pm-10pm) Unbeatable!

We'll be at The Theatre Royal on Saturday 18th 4-6pm for early registration. More details on this coming soon.

Yep. We'll be putting signs and bunting up on the Saturday but you're welcome to ride the course... as long as you don't run us over. ;)

Does this mean that getting to the event venue could be hard in a... 'normal' car? Or am I missing something?

The event venue will be accessible by any car. It's private property at another location near the track. These details will be put on our website and in the rider info email that will go out next week.

Ok not everyone has a GPS so this Saturday we'll give you a guided tour of the enduro course - with real human guides! OMG!

Meet 10am at the entry to the BMX track on Barker Street, Castlemaine. If coming from Melbourne go straight at the roundabout (there's only one roundabout in Castlemaine) and turn left at the traffic lights. Park anywhere on the immediate left. You can park there all day.

We'll then ride some nice trails to the enduro course, bust out a lap and then head back to town for coffee and sugary things. Probably be about a 25km ride. Can be shorter or longer depending on what people are after.

It will be at an easy pace. We know that people want to save their race legs for Sunday's Interwinter round 4 at the You Yangs.

Non-MTBA members will need to purchase a $5 day licence for insurance blahdy, blah, blah.

Hope to see you Saturday.

Long range forecast Sunday is for sunshine! :clap2:

Last Sunday we had our guided tour of the enduro course. It was a fun morning and thanks to all who joined us. Mike from Bendigo Mountain Bike Club shot some footage of the trails with his handlebar camera and chucked it on YouTube. Thanks Mike.

Online entries for $50 close this Thursday 12:00pm. On they day entries will be available for $70 so save yourself $20 and spend it on coffee, baked potatoes and pizza instead. :pizza:

Hope to see you there. :Banane17:
