Chains, Chainrings and Clusters

What's the deal with replacing one of these without the other two?

I've heard that it's a good practice to replace your cluster when you get a new chain as the old chain wears into the cluster or vice-vera or whatever. Is this right?

Depending on how you look after your chain you should really get 3 chains to a cassette and 3 cassettes to a chainring.

But most of us are slack. If your chain worn out it will wear everything else out very quickly.

I try to replace chains every 6 months. And I do a good clean and lub about once a month.

Without looking, try the chain- if it skips with force get the cassette, if still skips then your up for new crings too.

A bike shop should have a chainchecker. This makes this a very easy process.
