Comments on the Cairns XC WC course and its high technical difficulty

As someone who actually races XC and is now switching to Enduro. I actually agree with the OP.

It used to frustrate me that as a mountainbiker, it was entirely my fitness and none of my skill that would yield my result.

Its fair to say that in the top twenty guys in my Marathon races, I was amoungst the best in bike handling skills but really struggled in the fitness stakes. I would train my arse off (literally :) ) but would be frustrated at races on trails where a log ride or a ladder crossing would yield no time advantage from just riding around it.

Call it "home ground advantage" in ball sports, "tracks that suit your style" in Motorsport or "pitches prepared for speed or spin" in cricket, "clay court specialists" in tennis . Whatever you want... It exists in every sport. Track design in XC is frustrating.

Roadies should be able to pedal around without fear their skill set isn't up to the task of the days race. But MTB technical skills should be rewarded in XC races.

This is what has lead me to Enduro. You must be able to descend but the descent should be long enough to test your fitness and then have to pedal up to the next..... guys like Graves have posters on my wall for this reason.

She says 5 to 6 foot drops, the landing on the bottom right vid is so well made you can basically just roll off.
As for the other one I rode around that.

Top stuff.

The Liv/Giant girls don't seem to be complaining. From Jolanda Neff's fb page: "Checking the World Cup track in Cairns with the Giant boys. One of the greatest & most playful tracks I've ever ridden. "

She smoked the rest of the field in Pietermaritzburg last week.

During the last off-season her team mate Maja admitted her tech skills needed improving, e.g. she could not jump. So she spent some time in Spain getting lessons from downhiller Oscar Saiz. Results below:

Looking at the top left shot of Jacobs Ladder, there is a line developing to the left of the trail that is significantly easier as you avoid the wheel grabbing rocks. Hopefully a bit more bunting will fix this
I think the bunting gods heard your request......

In the video Claudio Caluori did, the Local/World Trail rider blazes through them no worries.
I'd imagine at race pace they will be gapping in and out and no one will care (aside from the viewers and spectators)

I want to see a Vid like Claudio's of the XC track in this water logged state.
Racing is going to be amazing!
