What's happening

I recently brought a trek fuel ex 8 and i am thinking i am going to upgrade to 2 x 10 gearing and i want to get some new cranks. i am not worried about saving or increasing the weight as i ride mostly am/trails and not trying to win with that split second. Also wouldn't mind the cranks to be red or white. let me know what you think.

Personally I would go 1x10 or stay 3x10 but it depends on the terrain you ride on ie is it steep? If you go all out and purchase new cranks, front derailleur and shifter you are looking at a few hundred dollars plus for what real gain? If you take the 1x10 all you need to purchase is a chain guide (approx 100) and you can go back to 3x10 if you prefer it because you will still have the parts. I don't now exactly what bike you have but you could buy a new wheelset that will make more of a difference to your bike. Or if your current bike is ok you could put the money into a slush fund for a new bike in a few years time.
