Custom STP Project

So a mate contacted me with a project, to build the ultimate STP! We had some fun throwing round ideas and came up with a parts list (the stem in particular proved difficult to get a hold of), with his cash backing it, we got to ordering! New coat of paint over the frame, custom decals and bottom bracket set-up came up with a killer result

No expense spared with the total price coming in under $4500.

I think you may have misunderstood the value of the STP.
Ahem......

Two things:

1) You spent $4500 on building up an STP you already had....

and

B) You went to the trouble of listing the quick link you used on the chain, yet failed to list, or even provide a clear picture of this rarefied stem.

Nice looking bike, but mate, it's an STP....

If they spend $4500 on an STP I wonder how much they spend on drugs.

$4500? Is that on labour costs for those decals? I don't understand but it looks good and would be fun to ride.

Great looking bike. I love seeing custom builds!

Interested to hear how the pedals go. They certainly look low profile.

Did you consider using a direct mount chainring rather than the spider and chainring combo?

Researched a few different options, honestly didn't know that was available. The cranks and bottom bracket needed some aftermarket work to get them on the bike. The mate who owns and built it is a fitter and turner so sorted all those issues out himself. My part was purely parts list, chasing up the lightest and best etc and helping put the bike together

Nice bike mate, $4500 and stp should never be two things that should go together. Nevertheless its a nice bike.

Something like this: http://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/...-tooth-shape-direct-mount-for-sram-gxp-cranks

It allows you to drop the spider for a cleaner look.

Nevertheless, it's a great looking build as it is!

Ahh ok, i'l look into that in future, cheers!!

Top job but I think the bike lost it's way in the process, what is it's intended purpose?
It's built towards a 4X setup that works as an allrounder. So wanted it fairly low at the front and use it between Pumptrack, XC and some Downhill. The seatpost remains uncut so it can be lifted or dropped as necessary (Not a huge fan of a dropper for this bike).

Fuck the haters, STPs are actually excellent bikes. They may be the VN Commodore of bikes but they are one of the few bikes that I've instantly felt comfortable on as soon as I sat on it. If I hadn't already owned a Cannondale Chase I would have bought one.

A bike does not need to be expensive and boutique-ish to justify a nice build, ya bunch o' brand snobs!! I'd be super-happy to own this bike.

In saying that though, tribal, really?! Eeeewww.....

Pedal Review?

Great looking pedals but how durable are they? Any rock strikes yet?

I read up on them and being magnesium was curios how tough they are for mtbing?

No rock strikes yet. Time will tell, if i remember il post an update in a few months. They weren't overly expensive for pedals, so no big loss if they can't handle it.
