Damaged chain link

Just wanted some opinions on my chain. I noticed last weekend that my chain has a damaged link that has seized up and won't pivot properly. It's a SRAM 991 cross step, not that old and uses a power link. Could I get away with taking out the said link and repairing it with another power link? This would shorten the chain by one link but I never shortened it when changing my rear derailluer from a long to short so I'd guess I have the length to play with. Would this be sufficient for both longevity and strength? I will purchase another chain in the near future but can't afford another $80 chain right now. Just want to get through the next month or two. It is used for DH/FR too if this helps.
Cheers
