Question: How to turn this Norco 125 DJ into a SS XC machine?

Fact: Already singlespeeded

What parts would you, the XC legends of RB, fit to change it up to XC spec?

Well yes of course but the situation doesnt allow for a new frame. Have to make do with what you see.

Once you add your really, really, really long seatpost, you might find that the distance to the bars is too short as the seatpost angle looks steep, so maybe get a long setback seat post, and a longer stem. Keep in mind that a general rule of thumb for xc bikes is to have the seat and bars at approximately the same height. Surely you could pick up a really cheap second hand xc frame from someone here.

+1 new frame is easiest, by the time you try and get new stem, seatpost etc, you could have a decent XC hardtail frame and swap all the parts.

Yes, Stem and Seat would definately need to be chained. You could continue with the fork for a little bit longer but would probably want to upgrade eventually. Its not going to be a race winner but it should get you off and running.

If you are thinking of getting into any XC races, clipless pedals are a must. All the parts should swap over fine, just check that the front derailleur and seatpost are the correct diameter.

put on a longer front stem, get seat post up and move seat slightly forward, put on some clipin pedals and you're ready to go. You're never going to race on it, but would still be a fun XC bike, expect to be last up climbs but the fastest going down. Beyond that, you would be better off getting a XC bike.
