I'm looking to replace my Elixir CRs with Formula R1s... now the Formula R1s are marketed as 'race brakes', but the description and many comments say it's good for AM/FR/Enduro too. The bike will mainly be for XC/Trail stuff (no racing), so my question is, are race brakes simply lighter than their trail counter-part?
Is there any disadvantage of using race brakes for non-race stuff? As silly as that question sounds, I'm thinking racers don't brake much, so perhaps heat isn't an issue, but trail riders perhaps brake more??? Race brakes are more fragile?? Etc
Money isn't an issue in this instance as brakes are Christmas present from family, and I've been eyeing off the Formula R1s for some time, but haven't bought because $600 for a set of brakes is heaps!
Thanks in advance
Chris
