It was built in 2014/15 by one of the local trail builders to commemorate his brother, also a local who headed down to Tassie to kayaking and got lost at sea, never found.

They just had the 10yr celebration a couple of months ago.

You'd be surprised how many come up here and think its a little hobbit house from a 100yrs ago.

Everyone who rides a bike in Melrose ends up here at some stage, its usually ends up everyones Strava photograph.

I have a load of pictures somewhere of the whole building, inside is a fire pit that comes out the turret and an old cartwheel is used for the window overlooking the back of the hills.

Bronte burnt a couple of clutches out in his ute getting the rock up there.

Here's one from about 2020.

So its on public land or the private farm it mentions in the article? Looks like a cool place to visit.
The land owners have allowed MTB trails to be built on their land and are happy for MTB to generate tourism for the town. The trails were built in early 2000's so have been there for 20+ years.

We have 22km in the town, 24km at Willowie, 6km at the showgrounds and currently under construction, a 40km epic with a 10km downhill trail from the top of the mountain. So there will be 100km of trail very soon.

There is also a few more trails on Private land around the back of the mountain and Bartagunya which can be ridden, about 50km all up but these could be closed without notice as nothing has been locked in with landowners.

All the trails in the picture are on private land, this was a ride I did last week. The castle is circled in black.
