For Sale- "Bikes According to Categorey not Suspension"

i think that the bikes should be categorised according to what they are designed for ie.
-DH/Freeride
-DJ/Street/4x/Trials
-XC/all mountain
-BMX

rather than having them according to travel of suspension as there are many bikes with have the same amount but are built for different types. ie. hardtails can be for XC, DJ, or DH.

just my suggestion

Maybe so, but one of the first things you decide when buying a bike, after what purpose it's for, is if it'll be stiff/short/long travel.
Dividing in to categories gets messier again.

As Rik said, bikes can be multi-use and defining their category can be very hard. However, how much travel a bike has is a specific feature that can be used to separate one bike from another without question. It's not a perfect system and I totally see where you're coming from, but this was considered when the system was first set up and that's why the current system was chosen.
