Fork bushings

Just got a reply from the Aberdonian - https://sicd.co.uk/product/suspension-fork-bushing-sizing-tool/

None in stock as he was out of the display/flight cases but has a shipment arriving soon and is starting to make the kits again. He has a few 'pro' kits though.

$400 more for the SICD kits but you get an extra 0.07 tool for each size.

Grabbed a pro kit when they had a black friday sale last year. Brought the gap down to about $200.

Speccy 😍

Very nice but the current 733 pounds with shipping worked out to be $1415au, so over double the price of the RMS kit. Would have been nice to have the whole kit but its a bit of cash to drop.

Might even have copped some import too 🤬

@placebo have you had any forks than really needed a smaller size put through before the +0.1mm ? Or could the 0.1 be pushed through with a bit of work ?

I have ordered the +0.1mm on recommendation from RMS and online bobo'ing.

Only fork I've ever had a problem with was a Zeb Ultimate, which is why I ended up getting down this rabbit hole. Couldn't get 0.07 into it and started on the 0.04 and worked up to the 0.07. Everything else I've got had the 0.07 go through easily, so I've always just stopped there.

edit: Now I'm thinking about it, I've got another zeb I'm going to put a smashpot in. Will give that a going over with the 0.1 tomorrow probably, and see how it goes.

edit 2: 0.07 was a fair bit of work on my second Zeb. It was tight enough with the 0.07 initially that I didn't even think about the 0.1. Was better than the first though, which is why I hadn't tried it until now. 40s and a 38 I have were nowhere near as tight as the Zebs, could've got the 0.1 in those first up.

Got an email from the bloke at RMS this morning at about 3am (nightshift) saying he had secured a new shipping deal.

Emailed back asking about the choice of 0.1mm heads, he said that if only buying 1 size, 0.1mm was the size to get.

Ordered the kit.

Got an email back 5 minutes later saying it was mid afternoon Canada and a public hol on Monday so he was going to package it now and ride to the PO to get it off to me ASAP

5-6 email trail and purchase was in the space of about 30 minutes, then the shipping confirmation arrived, then its at the PO  Bloody good service.

Original shipping was $155au, now coming by UPS Worldwide Express for $66... which is cheaper than most of the German options.

Looks like it will be here around Tuesday.

Might even be able to get into the first of about 15 forks before I head away for the long weekend.

Bloody nice looking kit. He probably wanted to seal the deal quickly so you wouldn't have second thoughts about getting spendy 😅

The only thing holding me back was the $155 ship. I keen to get this through a few forks that I have as know the fork legs are tight.

The DVO on my Deviate will be one of the first, that fork felt great when new, then got tight and sticky.

So what was the total, if you don't mind me asking?
I've been eyeing this off for a while and haven't committed. Also, was the shipping update on the order page, or do you have to request it?

Only done 1 of about 15 forks so far, the 35.1mm head was tight as fark pushing through the 35mm legs of the 120mm SID on my Spur. I haven't ridden it yet but it feels better doing a couple of driveway laps. I went away the next morning so I'll get a trail test in the next few days.

Next will be the Dorado or the DVO on the highlander.

I will also add, out of the 4 sets of bushings, (2 in each leg) one of the lower ones went through a lot easier than the other 3 so there is definitely a discrepancy in the bushing sizing.

The Dorado feels good but I'll do it out of interest, whereas the DVO is really needing a push & polish.

Ran Bernie through the Dorado bushes. While the fork felt great already, the bushing were tight as a nuns nasty.

Initially I had to put both legs back on the dual crown to get the tool out of the first set of bushings as no way was it working on the bike stand.

After 20mins with the 37.1mm and a bit of sweat.

Took it for a 20km ride after 😍

Looking forward to running this through the DVO Onyx. Its been giving me the shits since shortly after I bought it.
